Resistol Herdsman

Today I spotted someone wearing a nice silver belly hat that I liked and I asked what it was. He said it was a Resistol Herdsman. I started looking online and found that the Herdsman seems to be discontinued if not vintage now. The hat resembled some of the Stetsons I’m familiar with…the Barnstormer, or maybe a low profile version of the Stratoliner. Would anyone on the forum have the specs on the Herdsman? It would be great to have that info, as I would like to shop around for something similar. This is my first post. I'm going to enjoy this forum! Thank you!

The photos I can find show what looks to be an Stetson Open Road clone. Resistol made lots of similar models. If this is indeed the style you’re referring to, it is relatively common.

The Herdsman is indeed a clone of the Open Road & truly a fine vintage Resistol. Therefore not common today. It has a 2-1/2" bound edge brim. I don't have the crown specs but I would guess at open crown it would be 5-1/2" to 5-3/4". Similar Resistol clones you might look for are the Wide Country 2-1/4" brim, the Waco with brims from 2-1/2, 2-5/8 to 2-3/4", the Dalworth & the San Antonio at 2-3/4".

For more info concerning crown heights you might try sending a PM to rclark, Desert Dog or Yamahana here on the lounge. They all have excellent collections of Resistol OR clones. You might also enjoy reading thru this thread for other brands:

Welcome to the forum!

PS: What size do you wear?
