Have you bought it already? The Japanese really like having these stencils so their repros usually have them.

However, History Preservation (the original western dealer for Buzz Rickson's) specially commissioned non-stencilled N-1s for them.

Don't even think of removing the stencil. You will just smudge it and create a major mess, no matter what solvent you try. The reason is that the paint will soak into the fabric. Buying one without a stencil is the way to go. Another one you could consider is Silverman's, an inexpensive, but solidly-made repro made with heavy-duty canvas. Probably not the truest copy of the original, but a cool jacket.

At The Front is another good option along these lines.

I am going to put a leather strip over the USN stencil.

I tried taking the stencil off at first but that didn't work, it's not just on top of the fabric its in there good. So then I tried to use a fabric marker to blend the words into the fabric and that didn't work either. leather strip over it is what I am gonna do, I just can't decide blue or brown leather strip.

I am only looking for plain non stencil ones now. Too much work to make the stencil go away...

I think the windflap one is fine; it's the whole back decal that feels over the top for civilian wear.

I agree. The flap on the stencil isn't noticeable when closed. Plus, that stencil is found on all of the issue G-1 jackets.

My mid 60s issue deck jacket has neither stencil. While stencils were frequently placed on the back of the jackets, I don't think they were placed on the wind flaps of the deck jackets.
