Please, post closeups of lapels from different times and styles. This would be great for those doing research in regard to shape, gorge height, flower hole position and angle, etc. similar to the thread about trouser details.
Here's one to start, from a "September 25, 1954" dated suit from Kaufman's Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh. It's not that much different from a modern suit at first glance. However, the gorge is a bit higher, the angle of the seam that connects collar to lapel is steeper, and it only starts to have some belly towards the bottom. Another point of interest is the relatively low position of the flower hole. Measures about 3 1/8" across.
I'm counting on the rest of you to add more.
P.S.: Rooster, if you're reading, could you post a closeup of the lapels that look like this on your sharkskin number? I'd appreciate it.
