Every year we go to the parade in Bristol, RI (the oldest in the country and this year will be the 225th year) then have a party at our house afterwards (btw all loungers are welcomed!). Along with beer wine and soda, I want to offer 3 cocktails; one red, one white and one blue. So, any suggestions? It would be ideal if I can mix them in pitchers the night before and leave them in the ice box.

That's a pretty good idea. Although I am thinking of the Cheers episode where Woody tries to create his own drink but everything he comes up with has already been invented. Btw, many of you will reveal your age as you post about how you remember that episode or respond with: Cheers? Woody? What are you talking about?"

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought you were talking about Red, White, and Blue Beer that came out for a short time in the 1970's. As I recall it tasted like crap, but it was cheap (thereby being the great appeal to us as teenagers), and after eight or 10 beers, who paid attention to the taste any way. :D

Here is a recipe for a combined color shooter. Although this might not be a good sipping drink.

Show your patriotism with a Red, White and Blue. This layered shot has a great taste to it with the mix of peach, orange and pomegranate flavors of the ingredients. The key to layered shooters like this is to slowly pour the ingredients over a bar spoon in a certain order according the density of the liquid. It takes a little practice but after a few tries you'll have the perfect Red, White and Blue layers inside your shot glasses. This is a great shooter for Fourth of July celebrations.
Ingredients:
1/3 oz blue curaçao
1/3 oz grenadine
1/3 oz peach schnapps
Preparation:
This is a layered shot so each ingredient is poured on top of the previous.
Pour the grenadine into a shot glass.
Float the peach schnapps on top of the grenadine.
Float the blue curaçao on top of the peach schnapps.

Here is another cocktail that combines all colors. I think I would like this one on the back porch right before the fireworks.

1 ounce watermelon schnapps
1 big splash cranberry juice
1 very thin slice jalapeno or serrano pepper
1 slice lemon
1 slice lime
1 1/2 ounces tequila
1/4 ounce blue curacao
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Watermelon wedge, for garnish (optional)
Directions
Mix the schnapps and cranberry juice in a shaker; pour into an ice-filled glass.

Muddle the jalapeno pepper, lemon and lime slices, tequila, blue curacao and simple syrup (to make a batch, dissolve sugar in equal parts hot water and chill) in the shaker. Slowly strain into the glass over the red layer. Garnish with watermelon, if desired.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses! As of right now, I'm going to go with Swingal's suggestion of the sex on the beach and Blue Hawaiin, and I'm going to do the tri-colored shots. I'm still undecided on the 'white' cocktail. Most call for "fill remainder of glass with cream' and I'm thinking, at least at the moment, that won't work too well with making up an entire pitcher. Cricket, that last drink looks like the most refreshing drink evha (as we say here in New England). I might have to make on of those for myself after all my guests have left.

I agree. I might make this one for myself after all the festivities. But the picture makes it look all the more refreshing. I actually got it from my Food Network magazine last year I believe.

You could do a modified White Lady...

Gin, Cointreau and Lemon juice....to make it frothy people shake it...sometimes with some egg white...so you could mix the pitcher ahead...then a quick whirl in a blender with the egg white and some ice would make it frothy white....

You could do a Lemon Daquiri. That is basically white.

Ingredients

4 cups ice cubes
3/4 cup white rum
9 ounces frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed and undiluted
Lemon wedges (optional)

Preparation

Add ice, rum, and concentrate to a blender. Puree until smooth. Divide mixture evenly among each of 8 glasses; garnish with lemon wedges, if desired. Serve immediately.

Also for blue, the Blue Arrow. A mate of mine used to drink them like they were going out of fashion, possibly more because they created a stir rather than they tasted good. We all used to call it Domestos.

Mind you this was the same chap who would set off the firehoses in pub toilets and organise indoor games of rugby using a watermelon. So perhaps it's not the most civically minded concoction.
