Tried to live with the original ribbon and bow on this Dobbs. Couldn't. Had to re-do it. Now, I love it! BTW this hat came with a dimensionally cut brim. Unusual.

Dean,

Another nice ribbon job.

I wonder, do you have a pic of you in your collar with the original ribbon on that hat? Just for the hell of it, i'd like to see how the double layer of white banding works aesthetically.

Baron,

I put that ribbon on my wool Open Road style hat, so tomorrow I'll get a shot of it in clerical garb, this time not the Roman tab collar, but the Anglican white band I think you'd be referring to, which actually I prefer but it was so hot today I wore the tab so I could slip the plastic white part out and unbutton the collar while I walked to church.

Looks great! You did a nice job with that bow.

To tell you the truth I really liked the original ribbon though :p

I've thought about this, and I think I've figured out what it was that bothered me about the ribbon. It isn't the ribbon itself, but the fact that the hat is a light bluish grey and the ribbon has such basic red, black and white tones, and together with hat, they just seem to clash. So I put the ribbon on a brown fedora body I have and I like it loads more than I did on the Dobbs. I'll post pictures to illustrate later today. Then again, it apparently didn't seem ill matched to some from what they saw in the photos. So it goes...

You are all too kind, gentlemen. Thank you for your usual encouragement. The Lounge is a first class place, and you each prove time and again.

That striped ribbon would look great on a Panama.
What's with the clericals? That hat looks good with them.

I take it you mean it's remarkable how good a fedora looks with a tab collar. Thanks. Hope the Anglican collar I prefer works as well. Hoping to post shots later. Good idea on the panama usage of the ribbon. I'm considering offering the ribbon to a Lounger who might give it a nice home. I think it's a little upset at me for choosing a black thin ribbon for it's previous residence.

Here are the shots using the black/red/white ribbon on another grey wool fedora, with my anglican collar as well.

This one shows the hat body closer to its true color

Same Ribbon: different hat

Here is that black/red/white ribbon on a brown wool hat body I have. I think it works better on the brown. The ribbon is a little loose from being switched out. I normally would tack it tighter.
