I have always believed that the spark of genius for the Floyd came when they were given the singular privilege of watching the Beatles at work on 'Sgt. Pepper' in early '67. Until Yoko, guests and observers were strictly verboten at Beatles sessions. A former EMI engineer who managed the Floyd was allowed by George Martin to bring the group in to watch and learn. It must have been like being there with Da Vinci while painting the 'Mona Lisa' ... or dare I say it... like watching water turned to wine! For creative musicians, that would have to have been a life changing experience.

I literally just read this on CNN right before logging in and seeing your post. I'll have to go home and dig out my copy of "The Madcap Laughs."

Just put on an early collection of PF singles--Apples and Oranges. But man, Syd's is such a sad story. It was a bummer about Nikki Sudden too, he had just played here last year.
