“I wish I could just come up with one perfect look and stick with it…like what if I bought some entire matching 1930’s wardrobe and wore that everyday...The trouble with that is you look really stupid and pretentious if you go to a mall or a taco bell or something…and you have to act a certain way and drive an old car and everything and it’s a real pain in the ass!”

Yep. One of the good things about Los Angeles is that you can pretty much wear what you want. I haven't tried a top hat yet, but so far people have taken whatever I wear in stride.

Here in L.A. if you walk around buck nekkid, the cops may eventually take notice. Otherwise...

What a perfect reason not to go to Taco Bell or someplace similar. ;)

Really? They don't seem to for me. Maybe its because you're older and they think you're going somewhere. I did wear my linen suit to the movie theatre yesterday and one guy was looking upon me with awe. I never wear my suits on a regular basis though. My hats I wear everytime I leave the house. I have a problem looking too old for my age. From a distance some of my friends say I look like an old man :(

Ha, when I was younger I wanted to look older. :)

I think the best thing is to get accustomed to wearing suits. Just do it often enough so you're not thinking "I'm wearing a suit, this is weird." When you feel natural in a suit, you'll look it.

Suit with a t-shirt can be a'ight. Looks nice but I'm not sure how practical the suit part is. T-shirt, jeans and a blazer make me look modern and I can top it off with my fedora. I've been wanting to look more modern you know, like a teenager.

Yeah, but think about the girls. How are they gonna date me when they say "You remind me of my dad" or "You remind me of my grandpa"!?!
I accept that opinion if that is how you feel. If you want to look hip for the girls then why wear a starched shirt and detachable collar to a school dance as you mentioned in this thread?

Because its formal and it'll look bitchin'. Besdes, old men havn't worn starch bibs and detatchable collars since the 1940's (or sometime at least 50 or 60 years ago). So it won't apply. And thats not for everyday wear either.

Man, when I was in my teens, girls my age were crazy about my style. There aren't too many of us young guys who know how to dress like a MAN anymore, Arrow.

Any girl who says you look like a grandpa or dad is way too immature and frankly, is not worth the effort.

Oh, and to add to the topic at hand: The author read my mind. Driving around in a 2002 Hyundai isn't very..."vintage". It's also a tad bit..."embarassing".

What is your style Mr.Salieri? I've yet to refine mine. FOr summer its usually consisted of jeans, or mylinen slacks with a collared short sleeved shirt or a long sleeved one with the sleeves rolled up, untcuked, with my panama hat. Sometimes I have my camera case becuase I love taking pictures of everything.

My style? It has always been very conservative but with a little dab of "modernism". I rarely wear blue jeans with a hat; but when I do, I usually wear it with an untucked collared dress shirt and leather jacket. Sleeves rolled up. For Summer, it's usually something similar to the aforementioned, sans the leather jacket. My dark felt hats are replaced by lighter ones or a straw hat.

When I'm going for the more traditional, I usually wear a dress shirt and tie with khaki pants. I almost ALWAYS roll up my sleeves and leave the top button unbuttoned. The tie is always loose. Sometimes I don't wear a tie.

Sounds sloppy, right? Somehow, though, I have been able to pull it off without a problem. lol

Maybe I'll put some pictures up soon. You know, to help you visualize it.

Yeah, ties a nice but it usually looks weird when I wear it that way. I'm trying to move into slacks but I'm not sure. I have a very clear idea of what I'm doing for fall/winter.

I'll probably untuck the shirt, but everything else I already own (except the vest and shoes which I plan to buy within the month).

"Good Lord! *choke!*

And here I thought we were gonna trade favorite comic book quotes...

Mine is from an early, early appearance of Batman when, after knocking a villain into a vat of acid (presumably to his death), he states very calmly: "A fitting end for his kind."

After decades of wearing suits on a daily basis you'll be as happy as I am not to have to any more. If you were required to wear T-shirts and jeans for your work after 40 years you'd be real sick of them too and never don them again.:)
