'Stole' this from another forum. Interesting insight into denim.

The host and the first guest seem to be vintage aficionados. Check out the shirts they're wearing in the first segment and the jacket the host is wearing in the "what to buy" segment.

Enjoy.

Edit: here's the direct link to the video if you don't want to search through pages of posts.

Fun, but insane. Though I'll never buy them, I can understand $150 jeans - old methods, more hand labor, US wages, etc. $500 is just beyond me for an item with a lifespan of only a few years.

The production value is fantastic, and the video is really enjoyable, especially the way that the chubby guy breaks it up with his not-necessarily-rules rules.

If you haven't seen them, check out the videos (commercials) on ACL.

Interesting, but they left out a ton of info.....guess it's for a beginner. Also, their advice on not wearing a denim jacket with denim pants is total BS.

Several months ago I read something that talked about the hazzards of wearing denim jeans with a denim shirt and/or jacket.

To me, a denim jacket seems to work well with a pair of jeans. But, in what I read, this "outfit" is referred to as a "Canadian Tuxedo."

I made the mistake of giving my wife the definition of a "Canadian Tuxedo." Now, she has a field day with me if a wear the dreaded outfit.

Ian - what can you wear a Levi's 506XX with? A pair of dress slacks or kahkis? Would look funny to me to wear it with anything but a pair of jeans. I think that chore jackets look better with work pants sometimes, but not always. If it's a classic cut in raw/properly broken in denim it looks great.

Never heard the term "Canadian Tuxedo" before...I work within site of the border here in Detroit!

I've heard the term "canadian tuxedo" many times myself.. and I'm all the way down here in Texas. I personally think you can get away with the look if done right and kept in the right context. Just never do it with a mullet :D . Personally though, I feel more comfortable wearing a denim jacket with loose fitting WWII officer khakis and work boots. The baggyness of the pants are offset by the snugger fit of most denim jackets.

Denim jackets can be worn with jeans. It can be tricky, but doable.

A Canadian Tuxedo is a Denim shirt with jeans and denim jacket the way I've heard it. It's a bad, bad look. I have worn Denim shirts with jeans, but the shades should never match. I usually avoid matching the color too.

I also really disagree with the care instructions. For god's sake, it's cotton. A very durable form of cotton. You can be sure that the guys who wore them in the mine didn't wear them for a month before they washed them- at minimum. Jeans are the ultimate wash and wear pant. You want patterns, you'll get them if you wash them or not. Of course, if you do wash them in hot water you set the color so you don't have to worry about the color fading dramatically all the time, allowing you to throw them in the wash using regular detergent.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who wears Lee regular fit or Wrangler slim cowboy cut. I wear jeans that are made with quality denim and fit me very well, but don't break $40, what on earth do I know?

Agree with the above.
Denim can be worn with denim as long as you are not trying to make it a formal outfit. ;)

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about wearing out denim too soon. Only the toughest of labor jobs should wear out your jeans. The rest of us will get years of wear out of them.

What would the Duke Think??????????????

John Wayne would fall off his horse over some of this!!!!!!

A man's man, a gentleman's gentleman can wear denim any way he wants too. Denim Jacket, shirt, jeans, boat shoes; denim shirt, butter yellow square bottom silk knit tie, charcoal grey chalk stripe trousers, brown lamb suede blazer (side vented), brow suded penny loafer; jeans, chambray shirt, shephards check cashmere coat, Cole Haan moccocians; jeans, white double pocket straight collar shrt, navy chalk stripe coat with patch & flap pockets, white socks of course & low vamp slip ons.

My personal philosophy is if you like what you have assembled wear it. Who actually knows what is "correct"!!

I always thought if it was denim that it went together. Keep in mind I was born and raised in south western Indiana. Though, now, I avoid wearing the same shades of denim together.

With that being said ... if you dig it, do it. It's casual.
