Where do you find the new ones at today?

I bought it at the Pendleton outlet store in Seaside, Or. acouple years ago from their 'Pendleton Heritage' collection. They don't have them anymore so I buy a new board shirt every time we are down there, you might like those also.

Bart, you may be aware of that twice-yearly antique fair held in Morton, way up on Hwy. 12, aka the White Pass Highway. (Well, at least they used to hold it twice a year. I think they still do.) There was a vendor there who sold old Pendleton stuff exclusively. If I'm remembering the conversation correctly, she stored it (she had what must have been literally tons of it) in a refrigerated warehouse somewhere. But she charged quite a bit for it, too, as I recall. Much of it was priced comparably to new Pendleton stuff, and I wouldn't doubt she wanted even more for the more desirable items. But that seems reasonable to me.

I don't know how old my Pendleton jacket is, but it is styled quite similarly (identically, maybe?) to Bart's. It has a blue label with gold lettering, if that's a clue.

Very different collar style on yours, thunder. And the lapels on Rusty's appear considerably wider than those on Bart's and mine.

As to dating these babes ...

What little bit of research I've conducted in the past several minutes indicates that labels on Pendleton men's wear are blue with gold lettering, whereas the women's garments bear an off-white label. But the older stuff doesn't have the "Wool Mark" in the lower left, while the newer stuff does. Mine does not have the Wool Mark. Bart, I'd be interested in knowing if yours does, seeing how it is apparently of fairly recent manufacture. (Unless, through some truly odd set of circumstances, it was sold new in a company store some considerable number of years after it was manufactured.)

FWIW, I commented to a woman at a party some months back that I liked her Pendleton jacket and I asked if it was a vintage item. She said no, she bought it new, but was fairly confident it was essentially identical to the style the company made back in the 1950s. So, it appears that Pendleton either keeps some styles in perpetual production or re-issues them from time to time.

Surely somebody out there is better versed in all matters Pendleton and can straighten me out here?

Tony, mine has blue tag with gold lettering and also inside below the bottom button hole a tag that reads 'Pendleton Heritage, limited edition'. I'm pretty confident mine was a limited re-issue. I hope they do it again soon. The different collars are interesting.

Any Wool Mark on the main label, though?

Mine has but the one label, so I'm guessing it's an "original."

They'd be wise to do another re-issue. I can't imagine they wouldn't sell.

Judging from the prices I see on their other offerings, these things could fetch a few bucks.

I don't know what a wool mark is, Tony, but the main blue tag has '100% pure wool' on it and directed below the big blue tag is a smaller blue tag that states 'Made in the USA' and has a series of letters and numbers.

This ...

is the Woolmark. Turns out it's one word, not two, as I had incorrectly assumed.

It came into use in the mid 1960s. I'm sure you've seen it a zillion times on the interior labels of various wool garments. I see that some (most) Pendletons I've looked at recently have the mark incorporated into their label. The lack of one indicates an earlier garment, I'd think.

BTW, and not to shoot myself in the foot, but these things seem plentiful enough out there in the great online auction world. So if you really want one, don't despair, even if it appears Pendleton isn't offering new ones at present.

Mine doesn't have that mark on it.

QFT. I'll see these things in thrift shops and antique malls once in a while. Usually they're newer, fairly ugly and/or expensive but once in a while there'll be a gem.

Interesting, that. Perhaps they're striving for authenticity with those "Heritage" re-issues, right down to the labels, with only the "Heritage Collection" tag identifying it as a modern garment?

But I really like it.

Keep in mind that even with the Woolmark, the garment might still be more than 40 years old. (Anyone seen my glasses? Hearing aid? Teeth?)

Pendleton has sent some of its production overseas in recent years (or so I've read), although I've yet to hear noises about a falloff in quality.

I'd gladly welcome that jacket of yours into my wardrobe, Woolmark and all.

Thanks Tony!
I have wanted one of the since I saw T21s and later Barts, and when I ran across one that fit and in a color [colors] that I liked ... well the rest is history!
