Milk chocolate - Medium Brown Felt
Approx 4 1/2 crown as shaped with “Dual Fire” crease
3/8 inch Tri-Cord ribbon
2 7/8 brim with 1/8 bound edge

A hat that had certainly seen better days… from a lesser known brand… in need of a new sweatband and covered in dirt… but somehow it just spoke to me. The felt while thin and dense is quite firm/stiff even in the crown… but shapes quite well with steam. The crown sports a sort of dual fire crease… almost like a slightly telescoped cattleman’s crease and was one of the things that really caught my eye. When I saw the photos though I immediately knew I wanted to try out a front pinch in addition to the crease… and I think it works. I tweaked the brim a bit… though I’m not sure I’m totally settled on this shape for it. I knew the sweat was fairly shot going in.. but I managed to sweat though and shrink up the old leather in today’s broiling heat. Oh well.

This Borsalino Thirty cleaned up some on the first pass, but not great. The green grunge spots (ink, verdigris from another hat, ??) on the crown came out some with rubbing alcohol, but so did some of the dye I'm afraid. I may have to dust it some with Nestle Quik.

This was a pleasant surprise ... my size!

I can live with the "beater" look since it fits me. Besides, what do you want for $1.75.

I don’t know anything about Borso’s but I have one now. It’s a fairly late model made for the US market, I assume. Another Bernie Utz hat. A shade over 2 5/8 x 5 3/4. Thin, fairly dense felt that’s soft and almost floppy. Nothing special but a pleasing block and light weight with good sweat will make it an easy wear. Appears unworn as the plastic tag is still attached.

Very nice, Greg. Borsalinos are usually low on shellac, so sometimes they can feel almost floppy.

From the seller’s pictures, I was expecting light grey, maybe with a slight blue hue. I saw it briefly under natural light and it appears to be more a greenish hue.
There’s a lot to like about it. The size is just right. The 5cm brim is shorter than I usually wear, but I like how it looks on this hat. The crown is 10cm at the centre dent.
The brim has a custom edge, which I assume is the Knox version of the Cavanagh edge. It’s the first one of these I’ve seen.

It’s not all good, though. The brim is a bit wonky, but it is quite malleable and can be fixed when it’s worn brim down. It has a bit of a musty smell which I expect will go away after some time airing out.
The seller listed it as having some damage, but in the detailed description said it was in very good condition with almost no signs of having been worn. The wonky brim and the spots and staining belie that description. View attachment 448268 View attachment 448269
I’m still quite happy with it. I’ve done a search on the lounge for spot cleaning tips, but will likely ask for more ideas on the Q&A thread in the coming days. I really do like this one, so I’m hoping I can get it cleaned up a bit.

I bought this hat as it is for a winter project. Unfortunately, the brim is 3” and not the 3 1/2” the seller stated. It’s a great dark green felt of unknown quality. The seller never saw the hat with the Sweatband.

Here’s my conundrum: I told the seller the hat wasn’t as he had represented it and he refunded me and told me to keep the hat. I would feel bad selling it for a profit. If someone wants it for their own project I’d be glad to pass it on for the cost of shipping (less than $20 contiguous US). Well, sometimes one just finds its way into the collection. Worth a gamble for five euro.
Ambassador tophat. Size 54 (it turns out), but it came with an interesting box, gloves (so likely used for funerals) and a nice old polishing pad. The previous owner was probably nobility because of the double surname.
The polishing pad has the name of Démoed music store, Enschede on it, so it wasn't intended for hats at all, but for cleaning vinyl records. Apparently Adje Vandenberg of Vandenberg and Whitesnake was a customer there. No surprise really: he lives in Enschede. Pity it didn't turn out to be my size, but for a fiver I won't complain.

I haven't seen FL firsthand in some time, but the horrific heat has marred any form of entertainment.

In the torrid summer of North-East Italy I bought this hat following my instinct and very little the horrible photos of the seller.

Panizza Oro size 60 or 7 1/2 in the USA in splendid shape inside, less in the felt.

The hat looks new but left at the mercy of the moths who have done a meticulous job of digging tiny holes in the brim.

The hat has a light and malleable felt with colors that perfectly match being both the felt and the belt in the color "Lapis".

It is basically a monochrome.

These are the measurements of this high-end Panizza: the rough brims are 6 cm in abundance, the ribbon is 3 cm and the crown at its lowest point is 11 cm.

It's rare to find Panizza from the golden age, this is one and it lifted me from the heat
