Hat color names are more about poetry than reflected light. If it sounds poetic and sells well, it's a good name. If you talk to people, who make their living from working with colors, they usually have quite different opinions on color names than hatmakers have.

I believe, Silverbelly originally was a silver grey color with scattered brown/tan/taupe/fawn specs. The name derives from the grey spot on the beaver's belly. It's close to impossible to exclusively extract the grey fur components from the pelt - hence the brownish specs.

Well, my supplier is German and the names of the colors are all very German

Just grabbed my second. This time a straw hat for those hot, humid Arkansas days. Don't know much about straw, this one is a Stetson made of Milan straw. Don't know much about it otherwise. Can anyone tell an era it may have come from? Snatched it off of eBay for $35 and there wasn't much of a description about it.

Took a chance on this. It's a Fred E. Weakley. Anyone heard of that brand?
It's got a 5 1/2 inch open crown, 2 3/8 brim with an overwelt, 1 3/4 ribbon. The felt is thick.
Oh, and it has several moth nibbles, although they aren't readily noticeable.
