Well, whether as built or a vintage "quirk" of aging, it looks great! Can't wear it due to size I presume, bummer. Is it a true 7 1/8 or has it shrunk?

I measure it between 22 1/8 and 22 1/4 so I guess I would call it a tight 7 1/8 right?

Ive never seen a regular ST. Regis homburg to have black felt with dark purple/magenta brim binding though.

Ive been wearing this hat in the house off and on, looking in the mirror occasionally. I have another porkpie that I made myself from an old gray Dobbs 2"er fedora. I like that one on me, but this new one looks more like a box on my head - not really a box, but it just sits there. Its not a 'part' of me.

So I wet it down and started messing with the brim. And the crown. I made it into a fedora with a turned up brim. And a turned down brim. Okay, I like the turned down brim. But I have short-brimmed fedoras.

I put the porkpie crease back in. The original porkpie crown wasnt perfectly flat. That is, there was more height in the front from the top of the ribbon to the top of the hat. I like it level all the way around so I adjusted it.

Turned the brim back up. And then turned the very front down, forcing everything up just behind that point.

I am very pleased with the result. To me, it now 'flows' the way its supposed to.

Sounds about right. That would probably bbe tight on me too, and I wear a 7 1/8.

I did not check in other sizes but this was the only Nostalgia in the Size 7 racks that was there.

This is correct regarding pricing. I did note on the Open Road racks in Size 7 1/4, that they had two hats similar to the OR but much softer, called the Adobe. It looked like it was similar to the Roadmaster but with finer felt. It should be easy to put a fedora crease into (comes with cattleman's) and to snap and shape the brim.

Got the 1950's/60's Faux Fur Tyrolean/Fedora that I have been looking for. My Dad and Grandfather both wore hats like this in the winter. No one seems to know what it is called. It has ear flaps too, but I did not use them today when I snow blowed the driveway.

JUST won a hat I've been looking for...a Statson Zephyr weight in loden green. 2 1/4" brim (which is about the minimum I will buy) and 5" crown. I'll have the crown set in a pinch-front, and that will bring it down an inch or so.

Thanks, Neo and Mr E. I tinker with most of my hats. Rarely do I receive one and just wear it as is. And then I keep messing with them until they look right on me. Almost microscopic (not quite, jk, but you get the idea) adjustments. I think thats part of the fun.

I don't believe there are any USA sources for the TONAK Trachten hats. I know TONAK imports under Salentino brand here in the USA. I am planning to visit TONAK in April so should have some more information.
