Stetson Royal in 7 1/8 US that sure looks like a Whippet, but there’s no Whippet markings. 5 1/2” open crown and 2 5/8” bound edge brim. A bit of verdigris that doesn’t make it through to the outside, and some foxing on the liner. The sweatband and reed looks great, but several stitches let go when I flipped the sweatband down. :(

My guess is early to mid 1950s, but it’s just a guess.
It sure does!

Nothing vintage, I keep missing out on ebay, but I did get this Milano Larry Mahan on sale. Changed it from the humdrum cattleman crease to this. Also I didn't like the felt hatband so I made my own.

Wilhelm Pless Wien "Extra Qualität", 57 cm, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. This a really beautiful Stiff Felt and in near mint condition. This is my first Wilhelm Pless Wien so a rare find. The only other WPW is a Silk Top Hat found by Robert (RLK). It's possible the Felt is Beaver because it's very dense but could be a blend. The liner is really fantastic. The color (not sure what to call it plus color changes) and company mark are striking. The contrasting sweatband with gold embossed company mark are great too.

Truly wonderful to behold, Steve. Both outside and in. Congrats on the find.

Is it bad that I’ve had this for a week and just opened it because I had to hide it from my wife with the Christmas presents?
If you had to hide it because it's a Christmas gift for her, good for you! If you had to hide it because you need to wait until the opportune moment to introduce your new hat to her, it's pretty much par for the course around here. :D

Not bad. Spectacularly great! My wife has a firm grasp of our finances and is usually the only one at home when deliveries come through.
I’m wracking my brain trying to think how I can emulate this…:rolleyes:delivery to my workplace? I could do that. Finances? Trickier. I also suspect she’d notice the new hat.:(

I sell a lot of hats too. Hats come in and hats go out. I still spend a lot more than I make from sells, but the fact that at least some are going out makes it at least look like I’m not the hat hoarder I’ve become. My wife isn’t a fan of hats in literally every room, but she’s supportive of the hobby. It’s not motorcycles or something really expensive.

I’ve actually gotten…. “You know all of your hats look the same to me right?”
My wife says my hats remind me of the hats her dad wore while she was growing up. Mind you, that was the 1960s. In the suburbs south of Chicago. Dad wore inexpensive Trilbys; I've seen photos. I have two hats that could be considered Trilbys, and one of them I've had only a couple of weeks. So, yeah, my wife is no expert, though she will comment if she doesn't care for the hat I've chosen on any given day. :D

It does help that she likes the way hats look on me and she likes hats herself.
