Nice buy, Randy. Wonderful alternative colour.

I saw this Stetson 3X just a couple of hours after it was posted and it was so unique, HAS kicked in hard and Brent @deadlyhandsome (TFL Enabler of the Year, 2018 and 2019) agreed to let me add it to my little collection. The felt quality is very consistent with the average 3X model, this one has a 5 3/4+ open crown and a 2 5/8 raw edge brim with a flange that gives it a nice brim curl all the way around. It came with the traditional cattleman's crease but, as usual, the side dents rubbed against my head. With the natural brim curl, I steamed out the side dents to give it more of a homburg look. This one is unlined, so perhaps it will wear a little longer in the spring and earlier in the fall. Someone may know the exact color, but if I were in charge of the color factory, I'd call it Texas Sage. It is a sand/buff color with a green tint very much like the color of the leaves of the Texas sage plants grown in the state. The 3/4 Hunter green ribbon helps pull out the green of the felt. I did not want to push the limits of the sweatband, so I did not get a picture, but it has a slender, rectangular reorder tag with handwritten information. It looks like a 721 or 723 block. Once upon a time the hat had a wind trolley but a previous owner snipped it off, leaving a short bit of cord hanging under the ribbon. Oh well! I like this one a lot already and I know it will be getting a lot of wear.

Anton Peschel Neutitschein, measures 57 cm possibly late 1930s early 1940s. There is no mention of APN but it's very similar in construction to the Anton Peschel Neutitschein, Peschel "Kristall" from the same find. The darker Brown Close Cropped Velour is really fantastic easily dry creases and is in very good condition.

Mystery Hat #2 Reveal

Beallcrest 5XXXXX Quality Kingston
Open Road Style - Silverbelly
5 inch crown as shaped with cattleman’s crease
3/8 matching grosgrain ribbon
2 3/4 brim with matching 1/8 binding.

From the one photo of these two mystery hats my feeling was a Mallory and an old Resistol in an Open Road Style. Yesterday confirmed the first with the Mallory reveal. Today it’s time for the OR style hat which is now revealed as a Beallcrest 5X Quality Kingston made for 3 Beall Brothers 3.... known as Bealls today. A real nice feel to the felt... the crown measures 5 inches as shaped nicely in a cattleman’s crease... however the felt is soft and shapes easily. Can’t get a real good idea on age... I was guessing late 50s to 60s. A few marks here and there but otherwise the felt is in nice shape. Now on to who may have made this hat for the Beall Brothers. The only real clues I saw in manufacturing and size tags weren’t too conclusive to me... had me think possibly Stevens or Adam hats. But then I saw this label on the underside of the sweat.... looks quite a bit like one I’ve seen before... on an old OR style hat no less... one made by... Resistol

Nice, Joe. It’s a new brand to me, but I’m sure you’re right that it was made by another hat maker for them. I really like these unusual ones.

Add it to the list when you get a chance:

One of the 9 "new" hats from last week and one of the three French hats out of the 6 that came from Stefan.

An unknown maker, Grataloup, but what a well made hat.

Wonderful feel to the chamois type felt. And some great all round finishes. The basting stitches are still intact.

Probably 1930s or very early 40s. IMG_20210413_155353.jpg IMG_20210413_155405.jpg IMG_20210413_201502.jpg IMG_20210413_144223.jpg
