I like it, jonesy. Looks like it will take whatever gets thrown at it.
Thanks BB, it will be interesting to see how it holds up to getting wet. I may shellac it. [emoji1783]

Sunny day on a Hawaiian beach ... I'd wear NOTHING at all
I know most Americans are not into nude bathing, but according to Google you have atleast two Nude-Beaches on Kauai ... Secret-Beach and Donkey-Beach.
Well, the latest addition has been quite the adventure, but the hairy Dobbs arrived this afternoon. What I thought I was getting, a grey hat, based on listing pic(s):

Bang up job, literally, USPS. Fortunately the hat was inside a hat box inside this box and wrapped in bubble wrap and paper. Kudos to the seller:

That's right...it's green! Had to take pics outside to try to capture the coloration the best. No detailed shots of the head opening as it's rather windy today. I did peak under the sweatband and it's a 40s factory tag. Combined with the roundel, stitched sweatband joint, and improved felted welt process it should be circa WWII. The brim, while not floppy, is definitely not a snap brim. Might end up being a brims up hat, not sure yet. There is some brownish/rusty soiling in spots. Will be interesting to see what some steam and a brush will do, but first off to the deep freeze for decontamination protocol.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with this unique piece. More details to be posted in a few days in the Dobbs Diner and Green Machine threads.

Nude beaches. Sounds good on paper, but the execution never achieves the ideal.Sunny day on a Hawaiian beach ... I'd wear NOTHING at all

Apart from it being green it is a wonderful hat, Jonathan.Well, the latest addition has been quite the adventure, but the hairy Dobbs arrived this afternoon. What I thought I was getting, a grey hat, based on listing pic(s):

Maybe that's why they call it Donkey Beach.Sounds good on paper, but the execution never achieves the ideal.
We live near Ogden, Utah & went down to historic 25th street for breakfast and to buy a Mother's Day card - oops, that will arrive a bit late! The street was blocked off... the farmer's market must be starting. Nope.... Ogden is known as Junction City: the golden spike that joined the transcontinental railroad was actually pounded in maybe 50 miles northwest of here, but the system junction came here soon after. Yesterday was the 150th anniversary of the event, but the big party seems to be today, on historic 25th street, with Union Station at one end. There are some big steam locomotives in town as part of the celebration. And, as it turns out, JW Custom Hats of Salt Lake City, since 1853, made some commemorative hats! More amazing, there was one in 7 3/4! It was like twice as expensive as any hat I'd ever bought, but the guy who owns JW was there... too good to pass up!

That will make a fine hat, DD.Just received this straw hat. It appears to be unworn. I still don't know the type of straw, but it is flexible and the storage damage will be an easy fix. I'm very happy with this one.
