I'm a 7 1/4, dont know what the seller was thinking because a paper 7 1/2 size tag was folded back up under the sweatband and not visible in his photos. plus another 7 1/2 blocking tag was up under the edge of the inside liner. Had I known, I would not have bid. Luckily, this seems to be a smaller fitting hat as it is only slightly loose, most 7 1/2 would swallow me., I use felt or cork spacers and needed only a small thin spacer at the front and rear, side to side it fits fine. He also didn't know the difference between gray and silverbelly. It's a keeper for sure. I'm amazed at how lightweight this hat is, I have nothing like it. I really love the 3" Open Road style brim as well. ;)

An Open Road style brim would have a bound edge. This hat is solidly in "Western" territory. Have you weighed it, and how does the thickness of the felt compare with dress hats?

picky, picky....maybe someday I will learn all the slight nuances, but to me it is still an Open Road "style". lol this one measures in at 5.2 oz my older Stevens Western (similar brim and crown) comes in at 6.5 oz and my recent Texas Hatters Hi-roller comes in a 7.5 oz (alot more brim) Have not measured it against any dress weights yet. ;)

The OR "style" is a hat with ~5 1/2" crown, fairly squarely blocked, with a certain roundness to the dome. It has a thin ribbon and a brim of 2 3/4" - 3"+ (never saw one over 3 1/4") with a thin brim binding. If you told me you were wearing an OR style hat, this isn't remotely what I or anybody who owns an OR would picture. Put it up on eBay as an OR, and I'd pass it by thinking the seller wasn't a hat person.

Yes, picky, but technically correct.

Which is the best kind of correct. [emoji16]

Very much like my Mallory by Stetson, Little Dogie 3X Sand Peble Cattleman with mule kicks, but not an Open Road. 3" raw edge brim x 4-1/2" crown @ crease. I flattened the brim & put a bit of a cup in the flange.

A Cattleman crease does not an Open Road make.

Cant argue with your logic and knowledge my friend, I have now been officially schooled, but probably too old and grumpy to learn. ;)

If it in any way helps I’d be glad to take this hat off your hands. That way you have to be bothered with pesky semantics. I’m all about helping others.
