1930s Dobbs "Leisure light" came with some awesome packaging. I'll steam it as best as I can and take better photos

That’s tough. They probably overcharged on shipping too, then pull this. Bring back public flogging!

Bet you can bring it back to life, but still.... (need a little smiley face shaking its head here). Good luck!

Right!?

I know exactly how you feel Justin. I got one in the exact same mailer envelope.
Beyond stupid. Mine survived. Hope your’s does.

It fit nicely in the mailbox....

Oof, I just remembered the boater I won on eBay that was recently delivered, and I won't be back home for weeks. Hope it was packaged well...

fingers crossed

Oy! I'm sure it'll bounce back.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

Thankfully it's a soft felt

10 lashes should do it! Can't wait for pictures of the hat after some TLC

Thankfully it did bounce back... I don't understand what some people think. Almost as bad as shipping a hat insize a hatbox... and using the hatbox as the shipping box.

Just received this hat from a seller on eBay. It's in pristine condition and I got it for a great price. I think part of the reason it was a sleeper, so to speak, is that it's not branded by any of the well-known makers. It was sold by Cain-Sloan Company in Nashville, once the premier department store there, but has no other markings (other than the size). It's made and fits like a higher end hat, similar to a Knox Hallmark Series that I have.

Any ideas on who made hats for Cain-Sloan?

I picked up a couple of two dollar beaters today. First an ultra stingy Resistol "Gotham" Kitten Finish, sans ribbon

I got it mostly so I could feel the felt. Oh wait, that's Champ. Pet the Kitty? It is nice felt for sure, $16.95 original price. 1 5/8" brim

And second a Penney's Marathon thin ribbon, sans liner.

2 3/8" brim. It has 1246 ink stamped onto the reorder tag. Doubt that is the date, but maybe. 701 block

Needs a bit of cleaning and the longevity of the sweat is in doubt, but it will see some head time.

Panama is one of the usual ones that arrive in Europe from South America
2nsqred.jpg

Finished with little care and not very well shaped was an ugly duckling and before becoming a fluffy straw hat I sent it for an aesthetic cure in Holland from Fleur - Penumbra Hat
110hkpu.jpg

The result is what you see: the hat has become more attractive and with a good personality considering that it is one of the minimum qualities for a straw hat

A new pleated bronze-golden ribbon and a new shape give it more dignity
2e4ln2g.jpg

The proportions are those of a normal panama: 7 cm. brim, 9 cm. the crown and the ribbon is at 4 cm. No lining only the tip of the original manufacturer and a new sweat band

A new life for this hat called to the hot Italian summer work
