the name comes from the college age kids who would sit on the rails of the race track in the 50s ... they were tagged Railbirds

It's a great hat

Johnny Jessen was my woodwinds instructor in highschool, and he grew up playing the clubs and cruise ships. I always new when I was playing well when Johhny started dancing! Kenny Gorelick ,aka Kenny G, had the same instructor and was about 2 or 3 years ahead of me... the only other thing we shared in common was curly hair, LOL. He looked like Disco Stu (from The Simpsons) back in the 70's.

Anyway, Johnny used to call us Bird Dogs.... a reference to us jazz cats scoring with all the ladies. Johnny was a great man.

this thing had an awful ribbon put on it at some point in its life (pictured below) so I commissioned Tim @Cane Rod Maker over at Alley Kat to get it back to the glory it once held.

Tim did an unbelievable job... this hat quickly became one of my absolute favorites minutes ago when I opened the box that arrived from PA

the felt on this hat is absolutely ridiculous... Tim can attest to that... it deserved to have a proper ribbon put back on it

Super find, Ant! And great job, @canerodmaker.

Is it a dark gray or are there some blues in it?

Jim , it's more blue than anything
