The store, Nudelman Bros. is another Jewish clothier from Portland. The corp was formed in 1945. Found a cool link about the store itself.

And a Playboy Bunny promotion in 1959...

Cool hat. Should have pulled the trigger when I saw it.

I've been after a new hiking/fishing/grilling hat, and i found this recent Royal Stetson Saxon for way cheap. I guess these are kinda like the Ford Taurus of the hat world. Almost ashamed to post it amongst all these fine scores, but it'll save a nicer hat from smelling like smoke or fish guts or worse, so here it is.

Take it from somebody who has driven a lot of rentals. Tauruses were great. So enjoy that Saxon!

Thanks! I feel pretty confident I'll wear my money's worth out of it.

Thanks Anthony.

This one was pretty well 'broken in' when I got it, but it still took some work to get that crease in it. It's about the thickest felt I've had my hands on.

It sure wasn't my aim to impugn the quality of the fifth best selling car in Ford's history. The sheer number of them on the road today is testament to their utility.

I was merely pointing out that it's no Crown-Vic.

Tell me you had a cool hat when you drove it.

LOL! I did have a grey fedora that I thought was the coolest hat ever. I also had a Stetson that I believe was a woven wool type hat. I never wore the wool hat and was bummed that the grey fedora didn't have any names on the sweat or liner... but I did wear that hat pretty often, usually when driving Dad's 1954 Ford pickup truck. I had to wear a shirt with suspenders, too. It was a rather involved wardrobe, to be sure...

Dad's state patrol car was a 1973 Dodge Polara. It came with the big 440 CID V-8 and a thermoquad 4bbl carb, dual exhaust, special transmission and torque converter, tough suspension and incredible brakes that never faded, even with fast stops from 110 to 0. The rear 1/3 of the air cleaner canister was designed with a drop down metal door that would open up when you put the pedal to the floor. It wasn't so loud out the exhaust, but the engine just roared under the hood. It had a special AC shut-off switch to use at extended speeds over 85 mph. It still had the spotlight on it, but if you had it adjusted up and facing forward the wind would blow it backwards at about 90 mph. That thing burned through spark plug wires. And somehow it kept wearing out the rear tires... "must have been the sure grip differential, Dad..." Hehehe...

I guess with that name, the brothers Nudelman had no other choice but to open a haberdashery... nudelman translates to "needle man," or tailor.
