The anticipation of the arrival of my second 'proper' hat turned to despair when I opened the box.
From some reason AustralianGear thought a good way of shipping an Akubra Stylemaster halfway 'round the world, would be to throw it in a box, with a couple of hat stands & brushes, and no packing other than a plastic bag to make sure the dirt & dust stays attached to the hat !
Mangled & twisted ! 'Sweatband lower than the brim, & one side of the brim touching the top of the crown.

I'm glad now. I couldn't make it worse, so I steamed it & returned to open crown. After waiting patiently for a whole hour, I steamed again & reshaped. My first attempt at anything like this.
The newly named 'Stylemaker' is born : (critical comments most welcome please)

Nice recovery from such a bad experience. The hat survives! Victory!

All's well that ends well...
My first hat, also an Akubra, came from HatsDirect in a box with proper internal support for the brim etc.
It arrived in perfect condition, with a personal note from Naomi & Trudy.
Where I order my next from, is an easy choice !

Edit : Not wishing to be unfair, I should mention that the items in the box sent by AG were separated by four sheets of tissue paper...
Well at least they used a whole 4 sheets! You should be thankful.

picked up this Stratton "Lawman" recently.
I've owned a few of these in colors I didn't like so I sold them... an awful grey and a dark brown ... but I really liked the hat itself and was looking for one in more of a natural color.
I almost despise straw hats in general... but I dig these.
The only difference between this one and ones I've owned in the past is that this one doesn't say "Lawman" on the sweat ... otherwise the hat is exact

I've seen those for sale and they look interesting. For some reason, I'm turned off by the grommets and holes for the chin strap/stampede string. Are you going to keep the bash or "fedora-ize" it into something else?

Oh, and...HEADSHOT!!
please...

Brüder Böhm, 58cm Point 5 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches probably 1930s. Fantastic Hot Wet Brushed Black Velour - Soleil that is very pliable and absorbs all light. The company paper label with model, form and color information is missing. I would like to thank Celia for letting me know about this hat which she found on French Ebay. This is a rare find.
