Thanks, RJR.

Very nice. Is the ribbon contrast as it looks in the pics? Very striking.
The colors on my monitor are pretty darn close to the actual colors. The tag on the box is labeled silver belly, but the hat is a warmer (browner) tan than my Campdraft. The ribbon and binding are gray, at least in the flourescent light of my office (I have yet to take it outside). I really like the way it looks, and if it were three sizes bigger, it would be mine!

Got no straw so I took my new western Sahara beaver felt out to break in for camping. This is my first attempt at trying an overwelt stitched edge .

Thanks guys. I really wanted to see if my machine could handle it and how straight I could get it. Kind of tough doing an overwelt on a western body getting the first one out of the way feels good though .
Happy forth to all!

Picked up this vintage Luton hat. Not sure what its made of but it doesn't feel like straw. Any ideas on the age? It didn't come with a puggaree so I put one on. Does anyone remember if there is a Luton Hats thread?

Nice Panamas

My contribution, as I dithered and worried and waited and procrastinated and didn't call Peters Brothers yesterday to avail myself of their Milan sale. At $100 I had a really itchy phone finger yet my wallet was betraying my base desires (had I picked up the phone, I would have blamed Bob Roberts because, well, reasons). However, logic took over for emotions and I decided that, maybe there will be a fall clearance...

So I'm out after dinner last night with my Lovely Bride (TM), and walk into one of our favorite local thrift stores to find...

Pretty much exactly what I was looking for - great fit, too. 2 3/8" brim, which is great, because it seems like so many of these I see on eBay and the like are stingier brims. Picked it up for a great price (the lady even voluntarily came down a bit). Not sure if Richeleu is a brand or what.

Not sure if hemp - I don't know the makeup of the older, traditional Milans. It's definitely not newer, and I have no way of dating it, that I know of. And before you ask, it's crown is 4 1/2" as blocked. Probably 5 1/2" if it were open. Had I ordered one, it would be slightly taller and have a 2 1/2" brim; however, 2 3/8" is just fine with me.

Also, just for you, I've decided to blame "Bob Roberts" for everything. If my wife asks, "Hey, who ate all the leftover Chinese?" I'll tell her, "Bob Roberts." Why isn't the trash taken out? Bob Roberts.

Beautiful Fruno! I've been scouring the thrift and antique stores looking for a vintage straw and on the rare occasions I find something presentable, it's four sizes too small. This gives me inspiration to continue the quest. There's got to be a good one like that waiting for me! Great find.

Thanks, Dave. I guess we gotta keep the faith. I was jealous because I found one of those "too small" ones recently that my wife wound up with. Can't have her with better hats than me!

Great catch,Fruno.

Thanks, man.

Echter Borsalino, 5 1/2 inch crown open, brim 2 1/2 inches, size 6 Point, very good condition, date stamped May 18, 1929. The felt is very soft / light weight with a unique very wide ribbon and bow design. It has an fantastic over welt that doesn't allow snapping. The sweatband and silk liner (unique color) are of the highest quality. More details in the Borsalino Brotherhood and German - Austrian threads (worth taking a look at).
