Great looking VS, NewJack. Art's hats are fantastic. It wasn't until I bought one of Art's hats that I realized how comfortable a hat could feel. I have a very long oval and have always had to "break in" a hat before it ever became comfortable to wear. Art's hats fit perfectly the moment I put them on.

Landman...I'm with ya! No more store-bought lids for me (I'd be cry hard pressed to do so!). Getting the right size lid is so important! Gotta be custom/handmade for this cranium! ;) The VS just slips right on my noggin' like it was there all this time! Heaven!!

Joao, nice new ones. I'll have to compare with my Stetson austral. I knew the felt wasn't outstanding, but have always been under the impression that there was at least some fur blended in, even if very little or no buffalo. Also, buffalo pelt might even be considered wool, as I'm guessing it's sheared, but I haven't researched it at all.
Thank you.
Stetson said to me that they make the same model in different materials. The size tag have a "100% Wool" so it's not fur.

New arrival...My first vintage...Resistol OR 3X look-a-like...Love the patina of this lid!
Vintage 3x are really nice.

Cool, landman!

Interesting that Stetson makes the series out of different materials. I don't have any markings whatsoever on my Austral that indicate wool.

I think you might be right bowlerman. After a quick Google search I found some sites that refer to it as Buffalo Wool. The site below states that is not technically classified as wool but is very similar.

http://www.americanbuffaloproducts.com/products/properties.html

Knowing that wool (or a wool content may find it's way into a hat body), makes me wonder if that was what happened with some of the new Premier Stetson hat felt bodies, that have behaved poorly in bad or damp weather? I can look back at a few "woolies" Daniel has owned...one merely had a light amount of snow on it a few years back, the hat later appeared not only smaller, but as if it was a wet poodle coming in from a tropical storm! Wool (unless it has some special "proof" type of treatment to help it weather out the bad weather. just seems to "wilt"....and what is DynaFelt, if not wool mixed with something else, and treated?

There have been a few of those Buffalo hats that actually were very nice looking hats on eBay over the last year or so...one was a large older hat perhaps from the early 60's that was a very wide brim pencil curled brim with a 4 inch brim and a crown that was 7 inches tall like a ten gallon hat....but not knowing anything about what a Buffalo hat is made from, we passed on buying from auction. The name, Buffalo felt, you know, you think they have some way to process a buffalo for that...maybe the person who made up how they make the hats, is just simply from Buffalo....New York! LOL!

Nice one New jack!
I like the brim detail. What color felt is that?

Bond: It's a taupe/sand color...Been running into a lot of the lighter colors for my 7 1/2 noggin'! Gotta go darker now! Earthtones...Hence my reason for going custom...

Nice!
Smooth crease.
A new-to-me Dobbs landed on my doorstep this afternoon. It's great to find something vintage in a 7 1/2.

I couldn't resist using a filter on this shot...and of course, a radio.

Yes...Sorta!! Had Art send me a thinga majig to get the proper measurement. When I saw the results after measuring...Uhmmm..Long oval and egg combined!! :D I'm about a 23 1/2-5/8 for the lid to simply slip right on. To do a store-bought 7 1/2 is quite risky unless I could try it on first...

Every time I pass this picture (I have have seen it like 10 times) I question my self: Is the uneven distance of the different ribbon colors on purpose or is it the picture angle?

----------------------------

Yes, another Stagecoach. But this one is somehow special because John Galt changed the hatband for me. I think his work is very good and looks like it came out of a hat factory.
For now my only Stagecoach with telescope crown. I'll call it John Galt Stagecoach.

Some may ask "another stagecoach in brown? but you already got one with a wide ribbon..."
stageJG06.jpg

Well the brown is not the same. This one is more reddish. I do like both.

Jaoa nice hat. I stared a thread a while ago called Who is Riding Shotgun for us lovers of the Resistol Stage Coach Western hats. You should post some pictures of yours to it.
Thank you. My... erm... Stagecoach collection is now 6 or 7 hats. I'll check that thread.

Joao, that is one sweet Stagecoach JG fixed for you. It looks great.
Yes it is. Love this dark chocolate color. :)

Resistol made for South Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Cool! Doesn't it have Resistol stamped on the sweatband?

Wool is not the problem. It's how it was processed. This is a Austrian made Wool hat from the 1930s that has received heavy wear and still has its original form. The difference is the company that made it (Brüder Böhm) knew how to make Wool hats!
