Politician Style Icon: Donald Tsang

Outgoing Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang has amazing style, I think. He is rather photogenic and has a penchant for well cut suits (often 3-piece and DB jackets) and bowties in all manner of colours and patterns. A real dandy in many ways. Sadly the man who's replacing him is a total corporate/political drone when it comes to dress-sense - think David Cameron, or Barack Obama; boring, (intentionally) badly fitting grey and dark blue suits.

Here's to Donald Tsang!

I think in many ways, the Hong Kong area has some amazing talent when it comes to clothing. Last year I purchased a shirt with the brand name "fordoo" on it, and I think it is one of the nicest dress shirts I have ever purchased. The workmanship is fantastic, details of the shirt just stand out, the color is one of a kind ( a very soft light peach almost white ) and is made in Hong Kong. I purchased the shirt at a small shop and it was the only one they had. Silk material and hand stitched and the appearance of being very well "cut" in what pattern they used for making it. If I could find a few more, I would buy them for sure.

The picture of Mr. Tsang is showing such a sharp, crisp look, his suit and how he looks, class and good fashion taste.

You are also very accurate in your statement regarding the lifeless look of President Obama's choice of clothing. I am sure he pays top dollar for what he wears, but gee whiz, his clothing is plain old ugly!

Such a shame so few politicians follow this lead. The only one in the current UK Commons that springs to mind is Rees Mogg - who, of course, fits every stereotype going of a sharply dressed politician (and, of course, it is this stereotype that causes so many to avoid dressing well like the plague). Love the suit in the OP. Wonder which HK tailor he uses?

I understand what you mean when you write "Political Style Icon...", but maybe political style has more than one context. Here are two politicians whose style of dress became iconic in American culture...even though I doubt that either of them was ever thought of as being particularly well dressed. In fact, where I live, this sort of "populist" look persists among some older politicians...even today.
