I just bagged this for £59 from greedBay as an everyday wearer - its made of really supple leather (goat?). It was sold as a reproduction but to my slightly trained eye it's a bit of a mystery jacket. The mouton collar and lining look 'right' and so does the style but the zipper is wrong. The waist knit isn't rib rack.
The zip pull is a painted brass Talon but the zipper is a nylon coil type - no sign of extra stitch holes which might denote replacement.
If it is a copy of a USN flight jacket then which one is it a copy of?
That's an ink stain on the pen pocket which I can live with unless anyone has a sure fire way to remove it without damaging the leather.
No stencil on back of collar and no perforations on wind flap. The label says 'The Gentry Chattanooga'

Well. I keep looking at it and seeing things. I saw that the zipper looked modern but assumed that it was a replacement. It doesn't have the pen pocket of a M-422A...but it does have the pen pocket of a G-1. It has a M-422A lining, and pocket flaps...but no "USN" on the back of the collar.

So maybe its younger than I thought, but still a civilian M-422 with a few minor detail errors.

Thanks for taking the trouble to study it Atticus. Apparently 'The Gentry Chattanooga' opened in 1962 so given your info that it's civilian then if the zip is original it probably dates from somewhere from the 70's / 80's (Dinerman dated the zip 70's 80's from the eBay pics).
