Come on, you know you do it...you grab the hat by the front pinch.

You are always hearing "never grab the hat by the pinch...always grab it and put it on by the brim". Well, I grab the hat by the pinch. That's what it's there for, after all! (now, I do grab it loosely, and don't really squeeze it...). As far as the "proper" way to put on a hat...I know you watch old movies. How did they put their hats on? They grabbed the pinch and mashed the hat on their heads and went merrily on their way!

So, pinchers, there's no need to be ashamed! Stand up and be counted!

If you pinch us do we not bleed? I am not an animal!

Pinch me, I must be dreaming. :fedora:
Of course sometimes you can wear a hole in a tight pinch, especiallu if you have the habit of grabbing it too firmly or (heaven forbid) fondling it. And them as pinched it - done 'er in. (My Fair Lady)

I have difficulty imagining another way to put on a hat, unless you use two hands.

Yep, I must confess that when putting on my hat, I hold by the fron of the crown and push it onto my melon. Taking it off, I usually grab the front of the brim and flip it back, but that's more to preserve the hairstyle than fear of dmamgin my hat. I figure if a little abuse to the crown will destroy the hat, it's not that much of a hat to start with.

Yep, sorry purists, but I pinch. My daily wear hat (Akubra Flinders) is not quite this bad, but it might reach that point!

I can't really believe that the front pinch style really developed in any other way. It's just the most convenient way to put on your hat.

Pinching for me is part of the breaking in process.I like to pinch the top of the crown about 2" back from the front.

I pinch the Fedora, it's habbit, I don't even think about it.

When I wear my cowboy hat I find myself grabbing hold of the brim. I guess cause the brim sticks out so much further.

there's the kind of pinch you do where you put your index finger on the crease, with your thumb in one dent, and your middle finger in the other dent. As far as pinching goes, this is good pinching.

then there's the kind the previous owner of my strat appears to have done (as seen in the picture), because the crease in the front is impossible to grip any other way. I grab that one by the brim, because I don't do any further dammage. This is what we call Bad Pinching.
also, from the stains we can tell this guy wore the thing hard.
