I turned this up this morning - a lucky find.
The Penneys Marathon is the model worn by Jeff Bridges in Sea Biscuit. A really great thin ribbon hat. This one is newer than that - I'd guess early '50's.
And look - it's darn near perfect. Clean (dusty), still nicely blocked, clean liner. The sweat has a little bloom from age but is clean and soft. I find a single tiny pinprick nibble on the underside. And under the front snap are either teeny tracings, or dirt. Even in good light I can't tell which. It looks very fine. It still has the little cardboard "This hat is water repellent treated" tag inside. Color is silverbelly - a light tan.
Now the bad news:
If your head is small, this is one to grab. I'd like around $30. PM if interested. Or email scotrace@mac.com
