Are all straw fedoras Panamas or just called that for simplicity? My understanding is a true "Panama" was the fold flat, rolled then stored in a tube variety. Just curious.[huh]

The "Panama Hat" is a hat woven from Paja Toquilla in Ecuador. True, you can fold up just about any panama hat before it is blocked and treated with some sizing. The finer the hat, the finer the hat will roll.

Harry, an actual "Panama" is only woven in Equador as PB states, but over the years the name has been attatched to just about everything for sales purposes. Now, it's like asking for "Kleenex"...no matter the tissue we still call it kleenex. It has diluted the meaning but what can we do?
