Aureliano, it turned out really nice.
I'm surprised that this kind of hat has enough stiffness to be able to hold the shape you put into it.

It doesn't, I added a nothing of it. Just enough to help it stay but not much that it'd become crunchy and ugly to the touch. I like my montecristi brims flopping in the wind!
Thanks DJH and guys!

Wow! Where's the "drool" emoticon? :) That is just awesome. And BTW, that makes two Panama's in the last few days appearing here with a wind trolley. I wonder if a trend is being set? ;)

Most of my panamas have a wind trolley. I've lost way too many nice straws already to take any further risk. ;)

got this among several hats my wife's grandfather is giving me from his own wardrobe. It's gorgeous and its golden patina is just amazing. The weave count on this beauty is around 28x30. Hope you enjoy this step by step show.

This is how grandpa had it, in a box, rolled up and never worn. He says he got it as a gift but never got around to have it blocked, etc.

first, off it went into the open crown block to get rid of folds and creases. Working on this was like working with cloth!

img_1131.jpg

then a little work with the tollicker (now you know why i wanted one!) to define crown from brim. Made this a 2 1/2.

sewing the leather sweatband.

back to the block, this time the teardrop one.

and to the flange...

i believe it turned out well, don't you think?

Though not the first outing, it is the first pic of me in the hat out and about. Went for a walk this morning before it hit 90 degrees Fahrenheit and my wife snapped this shot of me and my daughter with her cell phone...
