Outsize Vintage Suits or Vintage Style Suits... Help!!!

Hi,

My other half is looking for some vintage clothes and has been for a while, problem is he is 6'5" tall, with a very long back and arms, 36"waist and 34" inseam... This makes it really difficult to get anything original/vintage because if it fits on the chest the sleeves are near his elbow....:(

He is getting more and more flustrated.... I've managed to get him some suits made in Hong Kong on my visits with work, however things like a pair of trousers or a shirt drive him to distraction...

He needs a semi smart/casual pair of trousers for evening wear where he needs to look smart without wearing a suit.... Something wide leg, fairly high waisted and maybe with a twin knife pleat of each leg (so it at least looks vintage), we've tried good ol' Marks n Sparks cause our friend gets his from their, but they don't seem to suit him (our friend is only 5'6") so they look nicely baggy on him.... I don't have time to get anything in HK as I'm not there again for ages.

Any ideas of websites that would ship to the UK or any shops in the UK....

Thanks guys

Estelle :)

Salv will hopefully chime in here. He knows a good online store (maybe two) that does excellent repros in the UK.

I'll always recommend Rocacha Tailoring in London for repro trousers and suits. All the stuff is made to measure from vintage patterns and their Zoot trousers look, to me, to be the best repros available in the UK:

They're high waisted with twin pleats, what's known as a Hollywood waist, dropped belt loops, and with ankle widths up to 19". I posted some pictures of a couple of pairs of mine in the Perfectly Perfect Pants thread.

They can be quite expensive though - polyster trousers are £70, poly/wool blend are £85 and pure wool start at £95 although you can expect to pay up to £150 for the better wools. They also do linen and cotton drills but they're not mentioned on the website.

My other favourite place for repros, but more in a Britain between-the-wars style, is Old Town in Holt, Norfolk. They have a few styles of trouser including the High Rise and Vauxhall

which come in various wool serges, tweeds, corduroy, moleskin and linen.

If you need any more info feel free to ask.

Thanks again :cheers1:

I ghuess if their stuff is good that is what counts. But I would have a problem trusting a company that woud make something in a vintage style with polyester. I know it is a business and they have to make mney, but how could I trust them to have a true love and respect for vintage.

Those pants for example, are cut well and look okay, but they hang funny. Better than most of what is out there though.

Rocacha have been in business since 1980 and the same guy is still running it - he knows his stuff. Not everyone can afford wool so polyester is an affordable compromise, and making suits in polyester doesn't mean that their wool stuff is shoddy.
