Yes, they are amazing cars! I never said we couldn't have a Deusy, but the number would be limited to those who could afford them! ;)

Ever you make it up to the Southern California area, do make a point to visit the Nethercutt Collection in San Sylmar. Free tours should you make a reservation. They have the famous "twenty grand" Deusy from the '33-'34 Chicago World's Fair! It's worth well over five million!

Geez! To think---in the 1950s----those things could be picked up for $500. Nobody wanted them as they were considered old and dated vehicles. :eusa_doh:

In some cases, there were collectors even in the 50s that were paying more than that for these cars... of course condition had a lot to do with it.

It will be most important in our vintage town to have a few very capable mechanics that will be able to rebuild and repair any make of car from the 1920s to the 1950s. I mean, able to make parts if needed also, a body shop that will do great work for a reasonable price.

I have actually seen pictures of used car lots with Duesys in there with signs in the windows for $500. I need a time machine---a big one to get the cars back. ;) :p
We definitely need a machinists shop. Any volunteers? :D

We also need to think of safety. We need vintage emergency services. Like a classic, red fire-truck with bells and whistles and those old, hand-cranked pneumatic sirens...

Ok, I have decided I want to own a tea/cocoa room. Fancy sandwiches, table linens.
Cocoa would be homemade kind, not the sissy new water stuff. With great big marshmallows.
Lots of yummy desserts to go with cocoa of course.

I will gladly take care of the ethnic side Retroville and run one of those seedy Chinese restaurants which looks like an opium-den, but which sells great food. I will speak in broken English with an authentic Chinese accent, to add to the atmosphere.

Actually, nuts to that. I can't speak Chinese English. I'll speak Singlish instead.

YES YES. and we need a Dalmation for the firehouse, to ride in the fire truck with his ears a-flapping!

The Dalmatian's association with firefighting dates back to its early history when firefighting apparatus was horse-drawn. Dalmatians have a natural affinity for horses and their original job was to run alongside the fire engine and keep other dogs at bay who might scare the horses.

VC Brunswick, you are MARVELLOUS!!

Oh god, I can't tell you how hard I struggled to find a photo of a 1930s fire-truck and you yank two excellent photos out of the air!

That is PRECISELY what we need when an illegal still explodes and sets a speakeasy on fire. And yes, C/Carey, we also need a carriage-dog, as well!

Interesting bit of history...

Firehouses have dalmations because back in the 18th century, dalmations (or their ancestors, rather) were used as 'carriage-dogs'. They ran alongside carriages to protect the horses during their journey. In the 19th century, with the rise of professional firefighting, firefighters kept dalmation dogs (the descendent of 18th century carriage-dogs) in their fire-stations, and their mascot pets would run alongside and out in front of the early, horse-drawn fire-carriages, to clear the way in an emergency.

That is why firehouses have dalmations today.

Damn it, Brunswick, you beat me!! *cries*

It's a terrible photo, but if you look here:

On the right, next to the pumper-carriage, you can see the stationhouse's dalmation carriage-dog, back when they still had a practical, firefighting purpose.
