The 6 3/4 beaver brown/green Stephen L. Stetson has arrived! I purchased it at auction for $30 on Invaluable a few weeks ago. The sweatband is smooth and supple, while the felt is quite light and crushable and is in great shape. It is a bit dusty so I’ll brush it off in a moment. It fits my stepdad perfectly as hoped.

I bought this hat from Stefan. Here are his comments:

A combination between a Willoughby and a P&C Habig zefir.Looks to be a size 60 instead of the advertised 59. Raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10,5 at the center dent. Nice lightweight hat at only 92 grams on the scale. Habig is known for the production year on their labels, but I can't make heads nor tails out of this one.Notice how the holes in the back seam don't exactly line up; they're human after all . The hat is in excellent condition; doesn't seem to have been worn much. The felt seems to a bit of heathering going on as well; really cool.For your information, here's the translation of the Ventilo label:
VENTILO (Sample Sch. No. 282.028.) In addition to protection against the sun, this hat also provides plenty of ventilation. The total area of the ventilation openings is approximately 2'92 cm2. The arrangement of these two ventilations significantly reduces perspiration.3

I finally found a fine-weave Sisal! I had been looking for ages, ever since I saw the pictures at the bottom. Not quite as nice, but close. Even the liner tip is similar.
I will ask Ignacio to shape it so it looks like it.

According to my way of thinking… you just don’t pass up a 3X Beaver Last Drop in this kind of shape and color for under twenty bucks whether it’s a size or two too big… or about 5 sizes too small (it was sold as 6 1/4)

Great pick up! Is it a 6 1/4 or 7 1/4? That hand written 6 on the back of the size tag would be a significant deterrent.

Hopefully find out tomorrow. The hand written 6, I am sure is why it is listed as 6 1/4... and might Be a big indicator. But at the same time 6 1/4 would be an extremely unusual small size… not something we see too often. For the price it’s worth taking the swing.. and if it’s tiny…. Maybe it becomes a decoration or held for future grandkid someday?

Finally won a competitive bid war from the GW auction site! 3/4 years ago a body could find steals and deals, but now appears to have as much traffic and gotten as high as eBay.
$254 plus $20 shipping which includes a nice old Marathon hat box ain't bad considering this is a near mint 40s Vita-Felt Playboy with a little wider than usual cool pink ribbon. Wonder if it’s original?
Only niggle about the hat that I could tell is the bow keep missing, but hey, I know a hatter who, especially for me, works dirt cheap.
I barely won as my winning bid was $262.
And judging from past losses here I highly expected to lose!

Nice! Hard to tell sometimes, but Judging from the photos it appears to be size 7 1/4, since if it was a 6 1/4 I’d think you’d easily be able to see its smallness.
