I’ll post more pics after it arrives. Problem is my uhual arrives Monday and I have to wait until I finish 2300+ mile journey to get to it and enjoy it.

I felt the same way, Bob. How often and with such beautiful embossments?

I’d wager the ribbon to be original, I’ve seen some similar on old Austral's posted round here. Also kinda looks like hat ‘1033’ from Justin’s 1902 catalog that was recently relinked.

I’m glad you got this hat, Ross. It’s stingy for you, but I’ve no doubt you’ll wear it well.

Remember when you cross the border on your move to not look back and risk the whole pillar of salt thing. ;)
I’m envious that you’re escaping before me.

Thanks, Brent. I know you’re almost there now too, just a matter of time!

Woo hoo! Glad you got it Ross. Also glad that I, in no way, ran your bid up. ;)

Ha, thanks Bob. I was topped out at seven bills so I’m glad you didn’t max it out at least!

You did well, Max. Certainly below wholesale/retail for what looks to be a very finely woven Cuenca hat. It has the sewn underwelt, so probably started with a much wider brim. This is something you generally see in Cuenca and other areas outside of Montecristi.

I passed on a nice one for $82, in Cuenca, that I wish I had picked up now... oh well... and it did not have this fine weave.
Can’t seem to see the jpgs….would love ti view hat. Can you repost pics? Thanks

Found this one thrifting today. Missing the ribbon, and with a crispy sweatband, but I couldn't pass it up.

But the bones were certainly worth saving.

The brim is just short of 2 3/4", the crown about 5 1/2". 100g sans ribbon.
After a little steam and the orange sponge.

I don't know if I want another project, or if this one needs a new home.

That’s a real score, John. Well worth rebuilding.

Hurts to see a fine hat in that state. I have one just like it, also a nutria and even more of a "project".

This one seemed a bit "off" to me, but who knows? It recently sold on Goodwill.

It's an interesting big brimmed, tall crown, wide ribbon hat with some sort of bound edge.

This is an early 1900s "Exposition Medals" logo, but the stamping seem light or blurred to me.

From an early 1900s brochure that Buler posted:

Zoomed (and fuzzy):

This similar one (belonging to Alan) shows how much detail these had.

Did Stetson re-use that Exposition Medals logo in later years?

And, yeah, that is a famous movie cowboy's name, but the font just says 1970s to me and Richard "Hoot" Gibson died in 1962. I guess Stetson could have made a hat for him late in his life, but you would expect an "Made Especially For" hat to have better finishing.

Also, the sweat seems "cheap" with no finished edge and oddly glossy finish.

I stayed out of the auction as the details (or lack thereof) worried me. The hat sold for $202.
Was I mistaken? I certainly don't want to belittle anyone else's choice to bid, but I'm curious as to what you all think of this "anomoly".

It definitely looked off. I was watching it too and would have bid if the price stayed low. I was curious, but not $212 curious.

I too hope it shows up here and some questions get answered.

Reminds me of one of those exaggerated Bob Hope hats or one a Rodeo Clown would wear...........
