I was wanting to know if someone sent you a vintage dress if you would prefer it in a box or would a poly mailing bag do?
I also wonder if they are the same price or if box weighs more. [huh]

the box definitely weighs more. I usually use a poly bag with the item wrapped in tissue but if the dress had beading or something else that could be damaged in transit I'd use a box.

But is the weight of a box versus weight of a bag change the billable weight? I think most shippers are going by pounds now, not pounds & ounces. And the PO does have free flat-rate boxes (you can order them free online) - same cost whether you fill them with lead bricks or feathers.

aah, its not the same over here. If the boxes don't cost any different then I'd go box every time. It certainly does look better and makes the purchase seem more...special somehow.

Yes, the PO does have prepaid boxes, but they're a #$&*# ripoff! Almost always, it's cheaper to pack it in your own box and pay the regular postage.

I will almost always pack stuff in a poly envelope. I will fold over the edge of the envelope and tape the seam and any areas that could leak. Usually I will also wrap the item in tissue and plastic to prevent any possible water damage.

When someone is shipping something to me, I don't care how they ship it as long as it's the cheapest possible (unless it's a fragile item, of course) and they're not ripping me off on shipping.

This is what I am trying not to do. I know I am not using the priority flat rate though sometimes it helps. If one sends the poly bag intl. by priority does the insurance still go with it?
intl. is so expensive but I have never used the poly bag.
Thanks all.

I ask this as I had misquoted on a dress recently intl.. Had it all nice wrapped in a regular box. At post office the lady suggested when it cost more than I had thought that I put it in a flat rate box which was smaller. So I did but I was not happy. I think a poly bag would of been better.
It was either eat the extra cost or cram it in a smaller box.
I regret it in hindsight and wonder what they thought. I am sure the dress was perfectly fine but maybe more wrinkled.
