Just got back from the Oregon Caves...
Cool Retro place especially the Chateau that was built in the early Thirties.
The Restaurant has original Room Checks from the 30's under the glass tabletops. The Diner is even 30's style and serves excellent thick Milkshakes.
Comes complete with Ghost "Elizabeth" and the room prices are reasonable.

Mom and I saw Oregon Caves back in the early 1970s, but didn't stay at the chataeu. My chief memory besides the beauty of the caves was the squirrell that would come up and take peanuts out of my shirt pocket.

Out here in the west, there are a fair number of rustic lodges. Some are publically owned and were the result of the WPA, and some are privately owned and were get-aways for the wealthy in the 20s, and 30s. Timberline Lodge and Crater Lake lodge are two of the former. The Benbow Inn and Sugar Bowl Lodge are a couple of the later. Then of course there is the Ahwahnee. All have something to recommend them to us whether dressing for rustic activities or for dinner.

this is probably the ONLY place where you can take a photo of the ladies room and people say, "Cool!"

looks like a great place to stay.. (not the ladies room) the actual building!

I can see a little lounge get together over there. You know, I've wanted to check out the caves but have yet to get around to it. What sounds really interesting is the ape caves (no there isn't any real apes).
