I picked up this suit at the thrift store yesterday because (a) I don't have a single-breasted suit with peaked lapels, (b) I liked the fabric, (c) it fit me perfectly, and (d) it was only ten bucks.

But I'm not sure about that curvy lapel line...

...or the extreme slant to the pockets.

The trouser legs are quite wide with a slight flare at the bottom...

...but that's an easy fix.

Other than the flared trousers, is this an otherwise wearable suit or is it just too 70s for good taste?

I like the suit and the lapel belly is somthing different.

I don't think it's too '70s. The 4 pocket vest and wool fabric help.

Awsome!

I love it. Snazzy my man, get down wit your bad self.
My only critique is if you lived through the 70's the flairs gotta go! Chic on a youngster, not so much on us. (excepting period costume, say for parties) The rest of the decade specific idiosyncrasies are a perk in my book. Quite the find.

Thanks for the collective thumbs-up on this suit! My taste tends toward the weird and unusual at times and it's great to have a place like this to get some honest, objective opinions.

As someone who was around back in the day when flared trousers were de rigeur, I assure you I will definitely eliminate the flare of the trousers - and I might even have enough material to cuff them. As for the style of the jacket, the more I look at it the more it grows on me - those angled pockets and bellied lapels with peaks way up near the shoulders are starting to look quirky and interesting rather than just plain goofy.

I'll post more photos after I fix the trous and have it cleaned and pressed.

I too like the jacket. The whole suit looks great. I agree with Subvet that a paisley tie would be outstanding with that suit. :eusa_clap

I like it. It says vintage, but avoids that terribly dated look that most 70's stuff has.

I especially like the vest. I think it'll work on it's own as well.

The fit is great, and at that price you could go rock climbing in it! I think you hit upon a great find.

I love the the image of rock climbing in a three-piece suit - talk about being dedicated to stylishness...

The trousers are now at the tailor's being converted from flares to straight legs. Pix to follow after the suit is cleaned and pressed.

I once overheard a woman comment to her husband that the sportcoat he was trying on was discounted so deeply that he should buy it if only to wear for taking out the trash at night.

Not bad for a thrift shop find. The color and the stripe are alright! The vest is nice and the overall look of the suit is very 30s. Yes, some 70s can be detected in this suit but, if you cuffed the pants it would look 30s period. Go with a nice 2" cuff if you have the room! And don't allow too much of a break at the hem. you want straight lines that are clean to pull off a traditional 30s look.

My self, I wouldn't wear a purple tie with that brown... try a nice dark green tie. ;)
