Thats awesome! What a great friend. I just started listening to Gray when I found downloads of the band's original recording. Up until then, I only knew them as a boring ghost band.
don't have any pictures, but about 7 years ago, i went to an estate sale. i went in the VERY dirty basement and was looking around. found an old box full of letters. i was looking thru them, getting very dirty, looking for wartime letters. didn't find any but at the very bottom of the box was an eyeglass case. so i pulled it out.
inside: original unused WW2 aviator sunglasses. in their original case. perfectly minty. (i think the only thing in that basement that wasn't covered in black soot)
best part... there was no price on it and the lady was like "ohhh, how about $2?". I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.
I was walking down Haight Street in my way to the vintage store I worked in, and bought a fun big clunky red transparent bead necklace for $1.00. I thought it was plastic from the 70s.
So I was wearing it (as it went with the outfit) and our jewelry supplier came in and said, I'll give you one fifty for it -which I was pondering, thinking, do I really want to part with it for a fifty cent profit, and then he said, "OK, three hundred"- at which point I realized I had something!
Anyway, it is particularly nice cherry amber! I have been offered up to $600 by dealers.
Such a bargain!
Not me, but a neighbor: About twenty years ago they found an old sketch at a yard sale and, looking at the signature and still having doubts, they decided to take a chance and paid the twenty dollars the seller asked for. A short time later they had it appraised. It turned out it really was by Picasso and was worth about $15,000.00. They still have it.
