Old Time Southern Flower Garden

Every year we plant a wildflower garden in the yard. We don't go to much effort. We just run the tiller around for a while and then throw old-timey wildflower seeds out and let them grow. Or not.

Here's this year's result. Corn flowers, zinnias, fleabane, black-eyed susans, sun flowers and a bunch of stuff I don't recognize sprouted and has provided great happiness for a thousand butterflies, hummingbirds and gold finches.

This photo was taken yesterday. In the background you can see the first storm clouds from Troplical Storm Cristobal, who is visiting our area today.

I really like the sunflowers. I tried to plant a few in my hubby's veggie garden, but a hard rain followed that evening. The rain compacted the seeds in the soil, and it was a no-show. Maybe next year.
