Old ribbon

So I came into a small stash of vintage ribbon, including the stuff I used on this hat ...

I'm still searching for the vocabulary to describe why this old ribbon is better than the new cotton/rayon blend (which isn't bad at all, really), so for now I'll just ask that you take it on faith. This photo really doesn't do justice to this ribbon's color, or how well it complements the body color. And a truer color rendition still wouldn't show its subtle superiority of texture and sheen.

Among the many attributes that make a Vintage Silhouettes lid a cut or two above most others is the vintage ribbon Art uses. He has invested considerable time and effort and money securing that stuff. That investment pays off, though. The ribbon shows, after all.

Fantastic!

Great looking hat Tony! Sorry I haven't had a chance to e-mail you yet, so damn busy! But reguardless, a very fine looking lid. And I fully agree that using vintage ribbon is a step above the rest. I did recieve my beaver bodies last week and have semi-blocked them out. when I feel they are presentable you guys can critique the crap out of them, I do need the input.
Cheers Tony!

I'm confident you'll find those all-beaver bodies far and away superior to what you had been using. Those rabbit bodies are plenty good enough, and you can build a decent hat around one, but in a side-by-side comparison, well, there is no comparison.

The first thing I noticed is how much easier it is to swirl vintage ribbon than the modern stuff. Trying to swirl a 2-inch modern ribbon to lay flat against the hat is a pain!
