Oilcloth

Hi

One of the hats I'm getting is probably from the 1950s and is a Dobbs Twenty. However, the 'casing' of the liner is made of oilcloth. I've heard old ways (as of the 1850s anyway) of making oilcloth included Lead Oxide, which is toxic. Does anyone know if the 1950s way of making it oilcloth used Lead Oxide? Do any of your vintage hats have oilcloth in the liner?

From wiki searched it cause I had no idea what oilcloth was...

Oilcloth was, traditionally, heavy cotton or linen cloth with a linseed oil coating: it was semi-water-proof. The most familiar use was for brightly printed kitchen tablecloths. Dull colored oilcloth was used for bedrolls, sou'westers, and tents. By the late 1950's, oilcloth became a synonym for vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) bonded to a flanneled cloth.

not completely unrelated, does anyone know of a source for the older oilcloth? I'm looking for a place to purchase a few bolts in a dark tobacco color for dusters/trenchcoats. I found one bolt in an old dry goods shop but am out and all searches lead to vinyl
