Nylon dresses

What's the story on these? I have one that is white with pink trim and white and pink dogwoods on it.. very cute.
Why would they want dresses made of this slinky stuff? Or are they supposed to be house robes?
This one is much too nice to be a robe, IMO. I'll load some pics soon.

I have another that is belted and such and surely is not meant for a coverup. Auction says rayon but sure feels like nylon to me. Was there a special type of slinky sheer rayon?

I have a couple of 40's dress that i always though were nylon, but after finding out that WAC slips were made of the same material i looked in a book and found out that the fabric is actually called knitted rayon. I love this fabric as it hangs so nicely and washes really well!

I have a couple of nylon 1960s dresses. I would imagine that they were the first type of dresses that would be considered "wash and wear." Wash it, hang it up to dry and a few hours later you could wear it without ironing it.
I would imagine there would be less of a chance that the patterns on the dresses would fade which you definitely have with cotton.
