Now that the auction is over - look at the brim on this straw.

See here.

Notwithstanding the hideous Dobbs, I was going to bid on this just because the Stetson came in the original Baskin box and it's a 7 5/8. What stopped me was the brim on the back snapped up so far it's almost at a right angle.

Does anyone like this look? I thought the reason for straw hats, excepting fashion, was to keep your head cool while keeping the sun off of your neck and face.

Thoughts on this style? It looks weird and the back of my neck burns just thinking about it.

The style on the Dobbs hat is called a highback or highboy. We sold them in our stores back in the late 1960's and early 1970's . I have one Borsalino in a style like this. It goes to show how styles have changed over the years.

I think those are a little too "fashionable" for me. I'm not sure I would enjoy those styles with any hat. The bands both seem rather large for such small hats and the brim on the "fedora" seems a little ridiculous. But if the hat fit, I'd at least give it a chance!

A member of our church gave me a straw hat he'd worn playing golf, it was about 30 years old, and had a very similar brim, stingy and curled like a potato chip. I put it away and it dissappeared one day.
