Another round of Johnnyphi's Deadstock hat auctions begins tonight.
The Fedora Lounge has verified that this entire collection consists of unsold, never-worn hats dating from the 1940's through the 1960's. The winner of each hat will be the first retail owner.
With one set of auctions under our belts, we can proceed a little more clearly.
Some of you have expressed confusion about the rules of the game. Others have offered helpful suggestions, and we have tried to incorporate those suggestions, when possible.
The following ground rules will cover the next set of auctions.
1) Individual hats will be posted in separate threads in the Merchants section.
2) Sizes, brands, styles and colors will be clearly posted, along with 3-4 photos of each hat.
3) Any damage or notable features will be described as best as possible, and photos will be provided whenever available. Members can request high-resolution close-up views of any photo.
4) Any fully-fledged member of the Fedora Lounge (more than 15 previous posts) may bid on any open auction.
5) Each auction will begin as soon as the hat is posted, and will continue until the scheduled auction ending time. The ending time will be posted clearly at the top of the auction.
6) Each auction period will usually be THREE days, and the end time will be posted based on Eastern Standard Time (-3 hours for Pacific Standard Time)
7) New auctions will generally end on Sundays.
Ending times will be clocked by the Fedora Lounge server clock. (And yes, this clock may not match your computer clock, it can be about ten minutes fast.) The auctions end at the time stamp on the final bid.
8) If a member chooses to enter a bid within the last 5 minutes of the close of an auction, then the auction will automatically be extended for an additional 5 minutes from the time of the last bid.
Bidding can continue if posted within the 5 minute extension period. Auction will close if no bids are posted during the extension period.
9) Bids should be posted in the auction thread with a simple statement of the bid amount. i.e.: "I bid $75 for this hat."
10) If you have a specific question about a hat offered, please ask it in the auction thread.
11) All bids will be visible to the rest of the Lounge. Proxy bidding and/or "sniping" will not be permitted.
(Note: While it is understandable that you may be hesitant to bid against friends in the open, please remember that this is a rather rare offering, and competition for the good stuff is expected by all.)
12) The winning bidder should PM Johnnyphi with his or her shipping information and PayPal address. Johnnyphi will promptly send a PayPal invoice to the winner for the amount of the winning bid, plus a flat fee of $20 for shipping and handling.
13) Shipping and Handling includes $15 for shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 states, and $5 for boxing and handling fees.
14) Payment is by Paypal only.
15) Hats will be shipped within 48 - 60 hours. (UPDATE - Please remember that the seller is a one man operation, and be patient in allowing for shipment and receipt of your hat)
16) Please feel free to share pictures of your hats and comments in the HATS forum once your hat arrives.
17) Your comments about the process may be posted in the Sale of NOS Hats Begins thread.
18) If you don't intend to bid, please stay out of the auction threads.
You may search the Lounge archives (Use Google) for specific information about any of the brands or models of hats listed. If you come up short, post your questions in the auction thread for the hat.
Good Luck to all.
