Never Been Worn, still have the original tag.

Waist: 19.5" across the top
Inseam: 25"

My husband bought these online, but they are too tight on his calves.

Stupid question - size 40 as in 40 inch waist? I'm a 34, but wonder if that could be tailored. I'm a rider, and would be interested, but if they didn't fit, I'd sell them on, I guess.

They actually measure 19.5" across the top, so 39. I would think they could be taken in, but I'm not sure. they are smaller in the calf area. Let me know what you think :)

I'd be hesitant to risk a reduction, about 5 inches waist in my case. It'd be a shame to try and ruin a lovely garment. Hopefully there's a bigger waist out there looking for vintage riding wear. Good luck!
