No Problem

Have you noticed that when you say thank you to young people they never say "your welcome"? They say "no problem".

Hmmm... I sometimes say that. All though it's usually "your welcome", or I often say "no, THANK YOU!"

In Ecuador we say "at your service." In the USA I tend to say "You're welcome" or "Thank you as well."

I don't get where "No Problem" comes from. What if it really WAS a problem but you helped someone out anyway? Then what do you do?

Can we just say: "You're welcome" and be done with it?

I admit to being guilty of doing this...I'm weaning myself off of it, as it's not professional-sounding, nor is it quite a return of the gratitude expressed by 'Thank you.'

With my new job, I've really had to brsh up on linguistics, I spend a considerable amount of time on the phone with vendors and cutomers...smiling and saying 'You're welcome' leaves you feeling satisfied that you've closed the call properly.

"No problem" is a good response for when someone is implying "sorry for all the trouble"....or something like that. It is not a substitute for "your welcome" though.
