New WWII era British officer's greatcoat

On Wednesday I recieved in the mail the greatcoat I just won on eBay. I believe it's from the WWII era, but I'm not entirely positive. It once belonged to a Lt. Col. who served in Egypt (based on the buttons and rank insignia, there's no tag on the inside with anything further).

This is a fantastic coat, and I'm glad I held out until one this style in my size came up, rather than settling for a later style. The details are excellent and the material is nice and heavy, definitly a coat that'll keep me warm.

There are a few small things, one tiny mothhole at the bottom hem, some of the stitching is coming out under the collar, and the inner button came off last night. The last two are easily repaired, which I'll do this weekend when I buy thread. Other than that and needing a bit of a press, it's in great condition.

It fits well, there's a little less room in the middle but it's not tight and that's something I'm working on anyway! I love the fit and the look of this coat. This is the first piece of vintage clothing I've bought in quite a while, but there are some great vintage and charity shops in the area I'm keeping my eye on.

Please forgive the jeans, hiking boots, and polo shirt in the pictures, it was what I had on and I'm still basically living in the clothes I put in my suitcases.

The insignia were on the shoulder tabs, I took them off.

I fixed the collar and the inner button last night, the material is very hard to get a needle through! But I was able to find a thread exactly the same color as the original, so the repairs can't be seen.

It's a thing of beauty, to be sure... I just hope you've got a strong back! My stepfather had one which had belonged to his grandfather, and I wore it for a while during my teens. To say it weighed a ton would be an understatement - it was almost certainly the heaviest garment I've ever worn.
