Watched the pilot today. Seems like an interesting show. I always watch three episodes of anything before I make judgement, so I guess I have to wait two more weeks.
However, I can tell you that the main character wears a 6X Beaver Stetson hat of some kind, though I don't know the model because I don't know enough about Stetson westerns.
I know it's a 6X Stetson, because in a few shots, you see the gold logo on the band, and in one, you can see the XXXXXX BEAVER mark in gold.
It's also how I know that it's a brand spankin' new prop hat that hasn't been worn much, since they're still pretty, shiny gold, while the gold stuff on the bands of my Stetson and Akubra are long since faded or gone completely :D

Out of respect for Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, I'll give this a couple of more weeks. It was, however , very flat. Flatter than a tortilla. I cared not an oat nor a fig for any of the characters.

The plot was the same old Same Old.

I am, provisionally, quite disappointed.

Yep...I though it was very s-l-o-w moving and predictable. Quaid has over played the "serious man of few words cowboy" type. His character is boring.

It takes a few episodes for good actors to develope their characters. Maybe this show will have enough Network backing to hang around long enough for Quaid and Chiklis to find the right traits for their characters.
I think the other major flaw is the supporting actors are wrong. Casting mistakes.

That's my 2 cents worth as a TV critic.

I watched the first episode and was pretty disappointed.

It did look to me like Chiklis was wearing an Akubra Bogart. I saw the X's in Quaid's hat too but it didn't really look like a Stetson to me. Before I saw the X's I thought it was an Akubra too. Briefly in the interrogation scene you could see a round logo on the sweatband and then later in the same interrogation scene there was black tape over the logo. I thought that was interesting.

Supposedly seasoned cowhands had some awfully bad horseback riding skills. The rodeo cowboy action was equally bad. Their cowboy hats for that period were not accurate at all, not based on photos I have seen at Rodeo Hall of Fame & other places....

Saw the second episode. I'm still in. Sure, it's a bit uninspired plotwise, but it's still a good, cheap, mindless thrill. Plus, after seeing what happened to a very nice vintage Cavanaugh on Boardwalk Empire, I really don't care if the hats are vintage/period-appropriate anymore.
I did like this line from episode two, though, "You should touch another man's woman as often as you'd touch another man's hat."
That tickled me a bit.

Which scene was that in Boardwalk Empire? I didn't notice a Cavanaugh hat. I've been trying to catch a glimpse of the inside of some their hats but I haven't seen any yet. I must have missed that one.

Better shows have had slower starts. Gonna give it some time. I've quit too soon before and regretted it. No huge expectations, but we'll see.
