New Nudie dry denim jacket and pants.

Pants:
I have been so into their selvedge jeans that I have totally missed their
other products. They had a greycast pant that is no more and I got one
of the last of the pants I wear here, in my size.
Pants are called "Slim Jim dry Japan" and is a 12oz dry denim in the
"dead stock" finish. They are supposed to look like a normal blue that
has been lying in a warehouse for 20 years. Wether or not they imitate
it, I completely love this color. It may not show in the pics but they are
a little greenish blue. Color is also called "greencast".
They look a little wierd in the back but they are still very stiff, I have
only had them for 2-3 days. They have alot of starch in them, it usually
takes a coupple of washes to get it all out and a soak makes the water
totally dark/green. Im gonna use them for atlest 9 months before wash.

Jacket:
The jacket is a dry black coated denim. It has a waxy feel to it and it
doesnt rub off any color at all. This is a very thin and flimsy jacket
perfect for summer. I think it fits me like a glove and its super comfortable.
I wonder why there isnt more leather jackets made like this.
Maybe I´ll send it to Aero someday and have one made.
The jacket with its black color will not fade and make contrasting
creases like the jeans, it will get shine in wear areas.
I will also wait a long time before first wash with this jacket.

The nice thing about getting dry denim that isnt selvage is that I got
both jacket and pants almost for the same price as 1 pair of selvedge pants.

There'a a Nudie outlet store near me but they never have anything I like.
Luckily, there's a jeans store opposite that sometimes has LVC for cheap.

Most places have measures for everything on the jeans. Measure against
your favourite pair and it should work. Just remember the shrinkage
if they are dry and not sanforized. They shrink about 1" in waist and 2-2.5" in length.

What brand were you thinking of?
I really wanted to get a pair of flathead 1001 16oz, but they are very expensive and Im not a fan of the pocketart. Would have to unsticth that.

Samurai looks nice also but seems too expensive.
Iron heart has sale on their original 21oz pants and those would surely be an experience.

The nudiewallet is very large and flat so its very comfortable.
But the jeans are probably made to be worn very low so you sit over the wallet.
Its just me who is too old for the "cool teenager hang" lol

Nudie have alot of jeans, but I mostly wanted to show the jacket because
there was talk about denim jackets here some time ago and I thought
a picture couldnt hurt. Its a very nice and easy jacket.

I think it depends alot what lifestyle a person have.

I never wipe food on my pants, I live in a clean house, I dont go out get drunk
and roll around on the street (wich would be the same as rolling in pee, puke, doggypoop and worse) like alot of youngsters.

I usually dont even sit in the grass and never on the sidewalk or on steps outside.

My last pair was used for 9 months and they didnt smell one bit.
I gave them a soak after 4 months and put them in the freezer for 24 hours
some months after that. Freezing to -20c and below for atleast 20 hours
kills all the bacteria, thats why fish for sushi for example is freezed.
However, alot of bacteria makes "bacteriepoop" and that doesnt die
when freezing or heating because its not alive. This is the stuff we
get foodpoison from, but im not gonna eat the jeans either so ill be fine.

I'm relatively new to premium denim but I gotta say that Nudie's Average Joe fits me like a glove. I don't think I'm in good enough shape to wear the Slim Jim. Personally I'm not huge on Nudie's back pocket stitching or the cost but as I managed to get my pair of AJ (Dry Selvage) on sale, I'm loving them.

I got my pair in December 2007 and wore them (mostly on weekends) for about 18 months. Then I had to put them up as they needed washing. lol I've got to wash them soon; just need to get hold of some Woolite Dark.

I thought they were like the thin finn but they arent.

I also usually wear Average Joe but slim jim in same size fits me very good.
They arent really slim, just slimmer in the leg then AJ but also has bigger
leg opening wich I love. Not bootcut they are straight.

They came a long time ago and thats why they are called "slim" even tho
they arent by todays standard.

If you havent tried on a pair, i suggest you do, you might be surprised.

I'm glad that I don't buy into the "never wash your denim" theory.

Incidently - I do buy into the apposite theory that washing denim actually improves the twine strength and helps develop some natural aging.

Hehe I know, it was just a little humor, but its also true.
I have studied hygien and gotten a "degree" because I work with food.


The thing about not washing isnt something to believe in or not, its simpel fact.
What happens is that when you wash and use the jeans again
creases will apear on a little bit different place then the first time
and while they will offcourse wear both by rubbing off and washing
they will not get as high contrast creases as if your wearing
and rubbing off on things at the exact same spots.
This is a fact and you decide for yourself how you use your own pants.
Some like it and some not.

The 'Superfuturian' high-contrast fades look very dramatic. Personally i'm more a fan of the softer, more 'vintage' looking fades which you on old photos of Levi's and Lee's etc.

I've had a few Nudie's over the years - Flare Glenn, Slim Jim, Reg Ralf x 2 and enjoyed them. Good luck with these Griff.

Wow. That is VERY impressive. :eusa_clap Never seen such a complex yet natural pattern - which even seems as if you stayed squatting in that pair of Flathead for the entire year! I'd say that is definitely worth the wait.

Flathead is also part of my consideration, but since I don't know much about the difference between various models I can't decide yet... Maybe I should travel to Japan some time.

I have to clarify that those flatheads are not mine.
I just googled a pair to show to get my point across.

Flathead are known to be the fasted wearing jeans on the market,
with intense vertical fading. They are a very dark denim and this
is part of what gives them very high contrast.
I think their 1001 model seems good and as they are all expensive
it really isnt much more to pay and get the 16oz that they are.
They are also 100% cotton.

You can always just wash the jeans whenever you like.
Longer periods of wear=higher contrast.


Here is a pair of the exact same model I have in the opening post. SlimJim Dry Japan

The wear pattern you get is related to the fit. Slimmer fit gets more
horizontal combs and baggier fit gets a wider and more diamond-shaped pattern.
Slimmer gets you more horizontal whiskers, baggier gives diagonal long whiskers.

You really cant speed up the process, it will look fake. You just gotta wear
them everyday and move around. I know the combs look unreal but it
really happens like that, just walk and be on your knees and stuff.
Wear them for too long and they get tiny holes back there, very wierd,
but remember they usually have *alot* of starch in them.

Personally I cant wear too tight because I think its uncomfortable and
I dont really understand how anyone can as they shrink 1" in the waist
after first wash. I hate to have to stretch like hell after each wash.

I usually try on a pair of washed jeans in the same model and if they fit good
in 34" then I get the dry version in 34". They will be baggier first, but will
fit perfect after wash. I see people on forums recommend to buy the tightest
dry jeans they can manage to button.....this seems unreal to me.
Like, if I wear 34, then I could maybe squeeze on a pair of 32 dry.
Im not gonna be laughing after first wash with 1" less then I can barely squeeze into lol

So if you measure the waist of the best pair you have at home and the
waist is 33" then you have to buy a dry pair with a waist of no less then 34"

Length is also an issue. My last pair was a little too long when dry but
they got too short after wash. So the dry japans I have now are 2"
longer then the last pair. They are uncomfortably too long when walking
aroung inside without shoes but will probably fit perfect after first wash.
Long time until that happens tho lol

I usually fold them when I get inside, becaue if you step on them too much
they can easily get too worn and get holes when washing.
I dont want to use them folded all the time because that might make them
tear at the fold.

Agreed - it seems ridiculous to be putting yourself through great discomfort when the entire ethos of wearing denims is that they are a casual and comfortable garment.

Unfortunately the sizing/shrinkage issue is not an exact science. I am currently running over 30 different pairs and each one has reacted slightly differently when soaked.

Because different denim has different cotton fibres in it and has been woven at different tensions it all becomes a bit of a lottery. Some will shrink down to a perfect fit when you make that initial hot soak in the bathtub. But eventually the denim will stretch - which is why some denimistas insist on buying skin tight.

You are right offcourse, but the 1"+ waist on unsaforized usually works for me.

True, but unfortunately for me the only stocking store in downtown Philadelphia no longer carries the Nudie Slim Jim. I have four pairs of raw jeans that I'm working on anyway so I should be okay for now.

I cannot wear jeans for my job so my jeans only get worn on the weekends, and only during winter/spring/fall so the wear process takes quite a while.
