Hello to all, I signed up to get expert advise on repairing my grandfathers pre-WWII straw boater. Thanks, Dean F.

Welcome aboard, Dean! Repairing any straw requires patience and steady hands. I have my grandfather's late 1940s Milan. After several examinations, inspections and attempts, I chose to display the heirloom on a shelf.

Hello to all!
Im 24 yo, from Brazil and last week purchased my first hat, a wide brim black fedora, from the brazilian manufacturer "Pralana". Im a lawyer but my true love is music, and in my free time I produce electronic music.

I’m pretty new here myself, though I’ve been buying hats for a good while now. I too am a music loving/playing (sax and guitar) lawyer, and did a lot of work with Brazil though sadly never got to visit. Glad you’ve signed up; welcome.

I signed up a couple of days ago. I am a retired U.S. Navy Chief, former Union Pacific Railroad machinist, and current full time college student, majoring in History with Secondary Education Social Studies Licensure (Colorado).
I have a some caps (Stormy Kromer, Hanna) and some hats. I have two Akubra Snowy Rivers in Santone Fawn, one of which I wear at school, and is great for that. I also have an Akubra Territory, in Santone Fawn, which I wear if I am out in the sun a lot. The only hat I get compliments on (really!). A brim that is a little too large for everyday use, but a good looking hat. I have a couple of Stetson Temples, in Caribou Gray and black, for more formal occasions. I have a Scala white toyo straw, a Santana Nebula(earlier) hemp, and a Santana tan toyo straw (blue accents) for summer. And I have a Stetson 6x OR in Silverbelly on the way.
One thing I am going to start working on is making my own hat bands. I have some Petersham grosgrain, and I am going to experiment on my beater Snowy River, until I get good at it. I have noticed there are a lot of good posts on here about those kinds of things.
I go to school full time, almost all year round, so I probably won't post much right now, but I'll be reading.

Look forward to your contributions.
Ps: another Historian (Oral i believe) here, Redfokker, he’s been around the block and graces the lecture halls too.

Welcome! As a fellow "Non-traditional student" I salute you. I went back to college after 35 years in the working world myself, graduated from Oregon State with a BA in History. Do you have a specialty in history? American or European?
