Hey all,

Anyone else looking forward to the new Marie Antoinette movie starring Kirsten Dunst and directed by Sofia Coppola?

The costumes look fabulous and were done by Milena Canonero who also did Life Aquatic, Affair of the Necklace, and Out of Africa.

The movie comes out in the US on October 13. Here's more info on imdb http://imdb.com/title/tt0422720/

I just picked up copies of Vogue and W magazine both of which have articles on the film and costume pictures!

For those of you who are costume nuts like me, Costumer's Guide has great hi res stills

Soooo excited!

First noticed Dunst in "The Cat's Meow" :D :D :D :D Made a point to catch most of her movies since then.

I saw the trailer for MA way back in January, I think -- and was wondering why it hadn't come out yet.

I like Dunst a lot -- I take some guff for that sometimes from the local cineaste crowd, who consider her a lightweight, but I've never seen her give a poor performance. And given the hipster-grrl approach Coppola seems to be taking with the material, I think she's a very interesting casting choice!

You didn't first notice her in "Interview with the Vampire?" She was quite precocious in that one.

I am intrigued by the idea of Sofia Coppola taking on an historical piece. "Lost in Translation" is a favorite on mine. That film showed that she is deft at handling emotional complexity.

Haha... Little Women was when I noticed her. She was so cute and pretty dang good for being so young. I actually rather like her myself- but in period pieces and not modern- Spiderman did absolutely nothing for me.

I've heard complaints about the modern music but I can safely say I could watch the film with earplugs on and still be enchanted- France AND 18th Century costumes?! This is going to be good.

Interview with the Vampire, yes she was, just a kid. I think she is cute but wrong for Spiderman films, maybe its just me, MaryJane should be stronger type.
I did like her role in "Cats Meow" loved the set, and clothes, good acting.

Marie Antoinette should be good costume drama until she loses her head.
"Let them eat cake"!!! lol

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
Never seen "Cats Meow", but after hearing about it on this thread, I looked it up, and it looks like a film I would like. Gonna have to check it out.
Kirstin Dunst's best role "Bring it On"!! That was a good movie....insert sarcasm here.
She did play a very convincing drug addict/ teenage prostitute for about 6 episodes of ER.

The Cat's Meow is a wonderful movie! The costumes are some of the best I've seen for 20's and Dunst was perfect for the roll. Made me really want a snazzy 20's yauct with all the wood interior. You should definately check it out, Daisy :)

This does look like a good movie. The trailer caught my eye a few months ago.

I bet there's a Beau Brummell bio in the not-too-distant future.

Lauren, do you remember a film called Barry Lyndon? Ryan O'Neal, 1975. Another excellent 18th century costume film. It was the first to take advantage of new technology that allowed filming by only candlelight.

(sorry - rambling now) another great costume piece is John Huston's last film, The Dead. Set in Dublin in arund 1900, based on James Joyce's The Dubliners.

Like Lizzie Maine, I remember seeing the trailer in January or perhaps even earlier. What got me was the more modern music--it gave a really fun fresh approach to the movie.

I hear Sophia Coppola did a lot of fun riffs on mix more modern elements into the movie. Supposedly Kristen Dunst wears converse in one scene.

And there is talk if wonderful cotton candy colored hair in scenes. But for some reason I recall seeing in many movies that style and color of hair for that time period. I'm sure someone on this board prolly has more historical facts on that one.

Loungers?
