I have just received my custom hat made by Art Fawcett, and I have to tell you that this is one of the finest hats made today. I compared it to several in my vintage collection, and to some made by a fine hatter in Chicago. This hat, made by Art Fawcett, is absolutely beautiful.
It is the "Manhattan", one of his limited editions. It is a silvery/dove gray, with matching binding on the edge. The crown is 4 3/4 inches from the brim to the bottom of the "V" in the front pinch. The brim measures just a bit over 2 5/8, and the crown ribbon is a very pleasing and vintage 2 inches. The workmanship is flawless. The sewn edge on the brim edge is better than on my hats from Chicago. The interior lining is satin white, with a classy black circle at the top, and the wonderful "plastic protector" is sewn in. Under the plastic, is Art's signature. The sweatband is the brown you find only on vintage hats. It is extremely well fitted, and of the best quality. Of course, my initials are punched into the sweat, in perfect alignment.
The hat arrived in a sturdy shipping box, and I was suprised to find a black oval hatbox with the Vintage Sillhouettes logo embossed on top. Not a sitcker, but actually produced in the manufacture of the box.
The hat also came with a "certificate of authenticity", and a "put it back" card in the sweat.
Overall, this is probably my last hat. I have been buying hats on ebay, from a well known Chicago hatter, and of course my vintage. This hat, is exactly what my quest was serching for, the "Holy Grail" of hats. I can without any reservations, recommend this hat. Oh, and the price was well below half price of the Chicago hatter. And about double the price of the "off the shelf" modern Stetson or Biltmore hat. You cannot get a better bargain. Here are some pictures I took today out in the front yard. I am delighted! :eusa_clap
